Your Morgan Hill Weekly 411
Week of June 29, 2020
Happy 4th of July Week Morgan Hill!
While this years 4th of July festivities may be out of the norm, we still have the opportunity to spend this day celebrating America the beautiful, land of the free and home of the brave.

Morgan Hill Freedom Fest is excited to bring you the 4th of July Celebration direct to your homes this year. It all starts with a broadcast of the the Patriotic Singers on July 3rd at
6 p.m. Then it moves into the grand celebration on July 4th. At 10 a.m. on the 4th, Morgan Hill Freedom Fest will bring you a full live celebration of our Independence Day. It will include over 200 horses, 300 band members and singers, a dozen classic cars, two dozen marching groups, floats and special messages from essential workers. They are thrilled to have special performances by American Idol Finalist straight from Morgan Hill. All of this culminates with the fireworks. This show will be broadcast on Public Access TV as well as on Facebook and YouTube Live. The direct URLs will be posted on .

Morgan Hill Freedom Fest can’t wait for you to experience this celebration in the comfort of your homes on July 4th.

We all enjoy the 4th of July holiday! Unfortunately, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, our holiday weekend will be a little different this year. We are encouraging everyone to have fun and enjoy your time with your family but also remember to practice social distancing and wear a mask when you are out in public. It is all our responsibility to do our best to stop the spread of the virus and reduce the curve.

We also love our open spaces, our homes, our pets, and our first responders. Fireworks have resulted in brush fires, damaged homes, missing pets, and unnecessary injuries.
Our surrounding hills are very dry, and every illegal firework poses a significant threat to the safety of our beautiful community.

Illegally obtained fireworks and “Safe and Sane” fireworks purchased legally elsewhere are still ILLEGAL in the City of Morgan Hill. Morgan Hill Police and Fire have adopted a “zero tolerance” policy for illegal fireworks and will be actively patrolling on and around the 4th for violations. The use and or possession of illegal fireworks will result in the following fines.

Between July 1-7 and between December 30-January 2 each year FINES WILL TRIPLE...................
1st violation is $300, 2nd violation is $600, and 3rd violation is $1,500.

Reference sections of the Morgan Hill Municipal Code:
8.32.010 - Sale or possession of fireworks is prohibited.
8.32.030 - Violation of this section is a misdemeanor

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding this can contact Sgt. Bill Norman at (669) 253-4982 or email at .

Virtual Town Halls
Since the beginning of the Shelter-In-Place Orders we have been holding weekly virtual town halls on Thursdays evenings from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. This has provided the community an opportunity to engage with our entire City Leadership Team and several guests from the County. These have been well attended and many good discussions have taken place from COVID-19 impacts, Shelter-in-Place, City budget, High Speed Rail, to Morgan Hill Police Department operations and many others.

Moving forward into the month of July we will continue to hold the virtual town halls on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, rather than weekly. We will continue to monitor attendance and input from the community to evaluate how much longer to continue these. We hope to see you at our next virtual town hall on Thursday, July 9 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

New County Health Order Anticipated Next Week
As of June 18th, Californians are now required to wear face coverings in public spaces - particularly indoors or when physical distancing is not possible.

***As with previous orders, the stricter of the two orders applies locally. In this case, the state order is more strict than the Santa Clara County Public Health Order. ***

In these tough times, it may be hard enough to care for ourselves, let alone worry about our beloved pets. Hope for the Animals Int. and Kids Animal Rescue started an urgent effort to help people who are considering having to give up their pets due to job loss or financial hardship from the Covid-19.

For information or to donate dog or cat food, please s ee the flyer. View in Spanish .
As we continue to preserve the progress we have made in case and hospitalization rates and improve our testing and tracing capability, we will be able to move toward opening even more sectors of the economy.

To get there, we need our residents to:

  • Wear a face covering. Californians are required to wear face coverings in public spaces - particularly indoors or when physical distancing is not possible.
  • Practice physical distancing. Six feet is a minimum. More is better.
  • Get tested. Visit for locations and guidance.

The State of California's Department of Social Services has announced the Disaster Recovery Assistance to Immigrants Program (DRAI) . The state has reached out to social service contractors serving immigrants and asked for these nonprofit partners to help distribute financial assistance to immigrants who are ineligible for any other federal or state aid due to their undocumented status. Catholic Charities of California has been asked to administrate the DRAI program in the Bay Area through each of the local Catholic Charities agencies.
  • Catholic Charities has established a hotline 415-324-1011 for individuals to apply for the financial assistance.
  • The DRAI Fact Sheet (English and Spanish versions) provides a summary of the program.
