Chief Maldonado Honored as EMS Educator of the Year
Congratulations to Fire Rescue Batallion Chief Monica Maldonado, who was named Emergency Medical Services Educator of the Year by the Florida Department of Health. Chief Maldonado is a member of the Florida Resuscitation Academy, which has helped train more than 500 fire, EMS, and hospital providers in High-Performance CPR using an organized systematic approach known as "Pit Crew." The Academy has also received grant funding through the State of Florida's EMS office to conduct five courses each year in rural areas of the state. The Academy has trained more than 100 instructors as train-the-trainer for High-Performance CPR, who have taught the training to their fire rescue/EMS agencies and have been able to increase survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Chief Maldonado and her team from the Florida Resuscitation Academy were recognized last week at the Florida EMS Advisory Council Meetings in Orlando. Chief Maldonado, pictured here with Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Krivjanik and Fire Marshall John Preston, has worked in the Oakland Park Fire Rescue Department since 2006. She will be recognized during a presentation at the Oct. 6 City Commission Meeting. See the agenda item here and join us in congratulating Chief Maldonado for her extraordinary achievement. Pictured:
