Assessor Interim Market Update

The City is contracting with Associated Appraisal Consultants to complete an Interim Market Update in 2026. A full property revaluation was conducted in 2022. For the 2025-2026 tax collection year values were assessed at approximately 75% of actual market value. Wis. Stat. requires each municipality to assess property within 10 percent of full value at least once every five years.

An Interim Market Update is a process where the Assessor reviews current property values within the City to ensure they align with recent market conditions and restore the assessment ratio to 100%. This is typically done to reflect shifts in the local real estate market that may have occurred since the last full revaluation. Additional information will be mailed by Associated Appraisal by June 2026.

Development Update

On February 10 the City approved a Development Agreement with Sargento Cheese on the southeastern corner of STH 57 and CTH PP. Construction will begin this Spring.

West Stafford St. Parking Lot

The City will be commencing construction of the West Stafford St. parking lot project beginning on or before April 1, 2026. Construction is expected to take six months to complete. This project includes a redesign of the parking lot. Once the project is finished there will be approximately 45 additional parking spots, as well as alter the general traffic flow compared to how the lot operates now. Parking in the east Stafford St lot will have updated temporary restrictions beginning April 1 to accommodate residents who live next to the west Stafford St lot during construction. Please see the map below.

Road Closures:

Stafford St.

Stafford St. will be closed to north and south bound traffic from E Mill St. to the North Entrance of the Parking Lot by Stayer Park for construction at the Henry Christopher Hotel Project. The sidewalk on the east side is open. This is an extended closure until at least November 2026.

Police Update:

Tax Fraud Scams

This time of the year, we see an increase of tax fraud schemes. Here are some tips to help avoid being a victim:

  1. The IRS does not communicate with tax payers through telephone, social media or text messages. They use the U.S. Mail. If you receive a phone call, text or social media post from the IRS it is most likely a scam.
  2. Scammers set up numerous fraudulent websites that look like tax preparer websites. Be cautious when accessing these sites and verify the web address before using.
  3. NEVER give your social security number out over the phone, social media or email.
  4. NEVER pay your taxes using gift cards, wire transfers, gold or cryptocurrency. The IRS does not accept these forms of payment.
  5. Visit the official IRS website at https://www.irs.gov/ for more information on tax scams and how to protect yourself.
