Nordic Cottage Project Moving Forward—Preliminary Plans to City Council. Housing, Health and Human Services presented to City Council, mid May, about developments regarding the Nordic Cottage (deeply) affordable housing project. Presentations were given by Housing Kitsap and project architect Matthew Coates, who envisions three small, two story cottages facing onto Lincoln. Next step: our first neighborhood meeting. Calling good Samaritans: anyone interested in helping with a new initiative matching seniors with volunteers in the Poulsbo area? Housing, Health and Human Services, in partnership with Parks and Rec and Poulsbo Police, is creating a new, phone based service to connect our 65+ neighbors with phone buddies for companionship and check-ins. We’ll be starting a social media campaign, in the next few months, to recruit volunteers.

Fire CARES and Police Navigator in Action. The City’s two behavioral health outreach programs—Fire CARES (in partnership with Poulsbo Fire) and the Police Navigator Program-joined forces at Viking Fest to be a resource for those needing non-emergency health and wellness assistance. Great to see these programs working together, on a great occasion, to serve residents and visitors.

Sign up for Nixle to receive important health (and other) notifications! The City of Poulsbo has partnered with Nixle to implement a notification system to alert residents in real-time about urgent and emergency situations. There are several simple ways to register: 1. Text POULSBO to 888777 from your mobile phone 2. Go to www.cityofpoulsbo.com and sign up via the Nixle Widget. The service is secure, reliable, and easy to use.

A few notable changes will occur at the planning commission this month. First, there will be a special, third meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 7^th. The purpose of the meeting is twofold; to review a planned residential development and subdivision land use application known as Lincoln Cottages and to hold a public hearing to amend the code to adjust the planning commission meeting start time from 7 pm to 6 pm. The hope is that an earlier start time will lend to increased participation, especially as we launch our comprehensive plan update. In addition, the planning commission will be meeting for the first time in person since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The public is still able and invited to join remotely via zoom or to call in during the meetings. With the hybrid platform and technological advances, the meetings will continue to be recorded and made available for viewing.
