SHORT-TERM RENTAL MORATORIUM
EXTENDED THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020

On March 23, 2020, the City of Rancho Mirage issued an emergency order suspending all short-term rental operations in the City through June 1, 2020. On May 7, 2020, the California Department of Public Health, under the authority of the California Governor, issued an order authorizing some businesses to re-open throughout the State, following a phased-in roadmap plan. To date, short-term rentals have yet been authorized to resume normal operations.

The City of Rancho Mirage Short-Term Rental Moratorium has been extended another month, through June 30, 2020, to remain in compliance with the State's public health orders. The temporary Moratorium on short-term rentals is effective immediately and will remain in place through June 30, 2020, but may be amended as necessary.

The requirements of all Rancho Mirage Short-Term Rental (STR) owners and managers effective immediately are:

  • Ensure STR property is listed as "unavailable" through June 30, 2020.
  • Cancel and block out all bookings, and ensure their property is not operated short-term, through June 30, 2020.
  • There will be a hold on processing any new applications until the temporary moratorium is lifted.
  • Any property found to be in violation of this temporary moratorium on Short-Term Rentals will be considered "unregistered" and subject to citation and fines that begin at $5,000. Additional citations can result based on additional violations, including a full revocation of Short-Term Rental certificate

All questions about the Moratorium must be directed to the Code Compliance Division by emailing  code@ranchomirageca.gov  or by calling (760) 770-3220.

Residents and neighbors concerned about suspected Short-Term Rental activity during the term of this executive order are encouraged to call the Short-Term Rental hotline at 760-833-7999.

This temporary moratorium on the City's Short-Term Rentals is another precautionary step to discourage potential visitors during this pandemic.
