Last week, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that Riverside County moved back to the State's Purple Tier, which is the most restrictive tier.

This time around, the Purple Tier does have a few modifications from its previous restrictions, allowing some business to remain open with modifications for indoor services including personal care businesses, schools (with waiver), shopping malls, and small gatherings.

Riverside County will remain in the Purple Tier for at least three weeks before it can move back to the Red Tier once its COVID-19 metrics return to that lower range.

Just as a reminder, the following businesses were ordered to move operations outdoors while in the Purple Tier:
MORE REASONS TO GET TESTED FOR COVID-19
One reason to get tested for Covid-19 is to get our numbers to where they need to be in order to move into the next Tier of reopening. However, we want to stress other important benefits of getting a Covid-19 swab test.

We all want to protect our loved ones, family, friends, and co-workers from getting sick but what if you are asymptomatic, which means you show no symptoms nor do you feel sick? Getting a Covid-19 swab test can protect and possibly prevent you and those around you, especially the vulnerable or the at risk, from contracting and spreading the virus. If you have an underlying health condition, that makes you even more susceptible! Therefore, testing for and detecting Covid-19 early can reduce the risk of serious complications.

So, for all the reasons listed above, we urge all residents to get a Covid-19 swab test.

Anyone, with or without symptoms or health insurance, can take a free Covid-19 swab test from a county or state-run site.

To get your free test, call (800) 945-6171 or visit gettested.ruhealth.org.
Visit covid19.ca.gov/get-tested for other testing locations in Riverside County.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!
You know that expression "if I could turn back time?" Well, it looks like we will be doing just that on Sunday, November 1st! Daylight Saving Time ends, which means we gain an extra hour of sleep. So, if you have clocks, watches, or any other "old-fashioned" devices that need to be manually adjusted, make sure to turn them back an hour before heading to bed on Halloween night.
MAKE IT A "HEALTHY" HALLOWEEN!
With Halloween coming up this weekend, we want to remind everyone to stay safe and follow the Covid-19 personal safety guidelines during your festivities.

Just like everything else lately, Halloween will be a little different this year. Below are a few suggestions on how you and your family can celebrate during the ongoing pandemic to make it a safe and healthy Halloween:
  • Turn your home into a haunted house or candy scavenger hunt for your family.
  • Have a scary movie night and Halloween-themed activities (make popcorn balls, pumpkin carving, face painting) at home.
  • Host an online costume party or pumpkin carving contest.
  • Decorate your home or yard with Halloween-themed decorations

To protect yourself and your community, you should not go trick-or-treating or mix with others outside allowed private gatherings this Halloween season.

The safest way to celebrate Halloween this year is with people in the same household or celebrate virtually.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE "STORYTELLERS"
WHO INSPIRED OUR IMAGINATION!
The Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory and Desert Theatricals children's writing program, Inspire, was created to encourage our community's youth to express their creativity and talents through a short story contest.

In its second season, the Inspire program did just that! Contestants were to stretch their imagination to write an original story of any theme or idea, with a simple plot, and a defined beginning, middle and end. Once all submissions were in, Desert Theatricals actors and musicians recreated the selected stories through improvisation and brought them to life in this exciting and entertaining YouTube video.

SUNNYLANDS CENTER & GARDENS
Sunnylands Center & Gardens is kicking off their outdoor activities today, October 28th, with five days of Coachella Valley Days of Los Muertos, their annual observation of Día de Los Muertos, featuring ofrendas, or altars, that community groups have erected in our gardens. This year, local artists are adding their talents to the mix, decorating colorful nichos (shadow boxes) that will be placed amid the cactus, agaves, and aloes.

Sunnylands is expanding their operating hours, giving the public free access to the gardens from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. A week later, starting November 4th, their café will open for outdoor seating.

For more information about Coachella Valley Days of Los Muertos and upcoming (outdoor only) tours and events, please visit their website at
