Generating Understanding Across Ideological Divides

Santa Cruz Public Libraries, in partnership with the Conflict Resolution Center, are pleased to invite the public to engage in two Living Room Conversations intended to reduce polarization and generate understanding across ideological divides. The second conversation will be held on Thursday, September 19, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. The session invites the public to a film screening, followed by a discussion moderated by a facilitator from the Conflict Resolution Center. Registration for the event is required.

“We are pleased to welcome you to our Garfield Park Branch for these conversations facilitated by the Conflict Resolution Center,” said Director of Libraries Christopher Platt. “Opportunities for neighbors to connect over challenging issues in a constructive, respectful manner help deepen understanding and strengthen our communities,” Platt concluded.

City Wastewater Team Brings New Trailer Jet Online for Local Sewer Maintenance

The City Wastewater Team has added a new Trailer Jet to the sewer maintenance operations. This equipment replaces a 22-year-old model and is crucial for maintaining key areas such as the Wharf, the Golf Course, the Leachate Facility, and local easements. The Trailer Jet uses high-pressure water to clear blockages from pipes and sewers, helping to keep the City’s 160 miles of sewer lines running smoothly.

Building West Cliff Resilience and Community Vision

The City of Santa Cruz, with the support of Farallon Strategies, recently concluded a year-long project to develop the 50-year Community Vision for West Cliff. This document provides a comprehensive framework that will contribute to the long-term vision for West Cliff.

For the next phase of this project, the City will work with the community and stakeholders to develop a 5-year Roadmap for West Cliff, aligning it with the 50-year Community Vision and current City work. The final roadmap will be presented to the Council by January 2025.
