Usually you read about elections as “democracy in action.” But the fact is, when it comes to elections, democracy is action. To all of the people in Santa Fe who participated in any of the different campaigns, who got directly involved in the election by knocking on doors or making phone calls and who took the time to exercise their civic responsibility and their right to vote—many thanks for doing the work of democracy and for making democracy work.
Now we’re at the end of the campaign season and about to enter into the joy the holiday season. Now that the votes have been cast and counted, we all need to come together for the good of our city and for the cause of our community. Campaigns are about choices and pointing out differences; governing is about consensus and solving problems.
That’s where we now turn our attention and our energy. The people of Santa Fe depend on us to serve them—at the end of the day, we all report to them. Let’s take the spirit of the holidays to embrace our work and come together in common cause. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve Santa Fe. We are blessed to live and work here.
