Highlights from the Week of May 16, 2022

There's a lot going on in the City Different!

Art by Bike was a BLAST

FAMILIES, FRIENDS and neighbors joined us for Art by Bike to celebrate Bike Month last Saturday, and enjoyed a host of events along a temporary protected bike lane from Frenchy’s Field to Siler Road, and on Siler Road from Rufina Street to the River Trail. The day was full of music, crafts, and other creative activities, and of course, tons of fun.

The event was sponsored by the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization and the City's Arts and Culture Department and Office of Economic Development, and made possible through the additional support of multiple community organizations and partners. THANK YOU to everyone who joined us and to everyone who helped bring this awesome event to life.

Welcome Home, Firefighters

On Monday, the Santa Fe Fire Department's Wildland Firefighters returned home from 14 days of deployment on the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fires. We are so grateful for their efforts to protect our neighbors and happy to see their safe return to Santa Fe.

Don't forget, we have a wildfire info page on our website. Check it out for tips on what you can do to stop fires before they start, and so you can be prepared in the event of an emergency.

Road-E-O Winners Bring It Home for Santa Fe

Driving a big trash or recycling truck through Santa Fe's streets is no simple feat – but our Environmental Services Division operators do it skillfully and safely, rain or shine. They got a chance to show off their talents at the regional SWANA Road-E-O competition in April, and Albert Valdez and Patricio Lopez both took first place in their competition categories! Congrats and good luck at the national competition in the fall, ESD.

Volunteers + Parks Team =

Your Community At Work

This spring, an ongoing series of "Community + Parks" volunteer-led cleanups have brought together civic-minded Santa Feans and the Parks Division team to spruce up parks around the city. Most recently, crews from Keller Williams Realty, the Democratic Party of Santa Fe County, Friends of Santa Fe Parks, and Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe took on cleaning and painting of the Fort Marcy grandstand. Thank you, thank you to all!

Save Water (and Visit a Park)

Tomorrow, the Water Conservation Office and partners will celebrate Santa Fe Saves Water Day in conjunction with national "Kids to Parks Day". The family-friendly event will have fun, free demonstrations and activities at the Railyard Park (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.). Attendees can pickup giveaways like native seed packets, and enter a raffle to win a rain barrel. There will also be a special scavenger hunt with fun prizes just for kids. Learn more here. Hope to see you there!
