City of Santa Fe

Weekly Wrap

Highlights from the Week of January 2, 2023

Water Conservation Commitment

The City has committed to taking additional actions to help protect the Colorado River system through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with more than 30 municipal and public water providers in the Upper and Lower Colorado River Basin.

Having reduced per capita average water use by nearly 50% since 1995, the City is considered a leader in water conservation. We are already implementing the conservation practices outlined in the MOU, and will also continue to refine and enhance programs to meet the goals and objectives of the 5-Year Water Conservation Plan.

You can visit our Sustainability Dashboard to learn about the City's progress on water conservation, climate action, and more.

Fitch Ratings Gives Us AA+

Fitch Ratings has affirmed the City’s Water Utility and Wastewater System revenue bond ratings at ‘AA+,’ and the outlook as stable. Fitch said these ratings reflect the systems' exceptionally low leverage in the context of very strong revenue defensibility, which is supported by the systems' fundamental roles as the sole water/sewer service providers to a service area with generally favorable demographic trends.

Christmas Tree Recycling

ICYMI: You can recycle your real Christmas tree for free through Saturday, January 14! Recycling real Christmas trees allows them to be turned into mulch, a woody material that helps Santa Fe’s soils stay healthy, retain water, and provide nutrients for plants. (Mulch is available year-round at the Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station). Recycled trees must be free of lights, ornaments, decorations, and stands.

5th Graders' Midtown Field Trip

Before the December break, City staff and partners coordinated an educational field trip to the Midtown site for a group of 40 fifth-grade students from Aspen Community School! It was a great opportunity for our future builders and do-ers to learn about this exciting project in person, and get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the important work taking place to transform the site into a dynamic, mixed-use city center. Learn more about how Midtown is moving forward here!
