Great progress is being made on Public Works Department projects that will make a difference in the quality of life in Santa Fe this summer.
On Wednesday, during a site tour of the Water Street restroom, Project Manager John Dillon briefed Mayor Webber, Councilor Lindell, and Tourism Director Randall (all pictured) on the status of construction. Dillon says the facility will be ready by mid-May, in time for the annual influx of visitors to the historic Plaza area and the residents who flock to summer concerts at the Bandstand and other popular events in the heart of the city.
Dillon is also quarterbacking the Bicentennial Pool renovation, which he says is one track for a Memorial Day reopening after last year's closure.
The department recently completed a water conservation project to replace and repair fixtures in City facilities including the pool, recreation centers, libraries, and office complexes. Project Manager Cary Gross reports that the result will be annual savings of 2.3 million gallons of water. That's equal to more than 50 homes worth of consumption.
On-site work on the long-term airport expansion project got underway Tuesday with the creation of a temporary parking lot. Construction of the new parking lot and the new terminal building will begin next month, says Airport Manager Marc Baca.
