TODAY, the City received a "2022 Mayors' Climate Protection Award" at the U.S. Conference of Mayors' annual meeting for the "Solarize Santa Fe" pilot program. The program helps homeowners of all income levels overcome the financial barriers of solar installation, and save money on their energy bills, through solar energy bulk-purchasing. Forty Santa Fe homeowners participated in the pilot, and all the solar panel installations were completed this spring.
The solar power generated from these new installations will eliminate about 220 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year – the equivalent to driving 547,000 less miles per year or planting 3,600 trees per year. While the road to a carbon-neutral future isn't an easy one, it's programs like these that will take us across the finish line. Stay tuned for news about the expansion of Solarize Santa Fe in 2022, and kudos to the pilot project team for this recent recognition!
