New Public Art Installation @ GCCC

The Arts & Culture Department and the Recreation Division have collaborated with local artist Arthur López to install a new piece of public art at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center!

The piece, “La Reina de las Fiestas de Santa Fe” (2003), depicts an artistic view of what Genoveva Chávez – known as the “First Lady of the Santa Fe Fiestas” – might have viewed and experienced from stage while performing. López is one of New Mexico’s most popular Santero wood sculptors, and this installation is a great opportunity to view one of his highly esteemed works of art while learning more about the life of Genoveva Chávez, for whom the community center is named.
