Fire Relief Efforts Continue –

And You Can Help with Safety

WE HAVE worked with the American Red Cross to prepare the Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) as a temporary shelter for evacuees escaping the threats posed by regional fires. At this time, no evacuees are at the facility, but we are ready should the need arise.

Most areas at GCCC are open and accessible to residents during regular hours, but the gym and the indoor track are closed to receive evacuees if needed and to ensure their privacy at the facility. GCCC passes will also be accepted at Fort Marcy and Salvador Perez until July 31, 2022.

We also have a new wildfire preparedness and prevention info page, with tips about how to avoid starting fires, what do to in the event of a fire emergency, guidelines for how to support the current fire-relief efforts and more.

Meet Our New Golf Course and Sports Complex Manager

Public Works has hired Jonathan Weiss as the new manager for the Marty Sanchez Links Golf Course and Municipal Recreation Complex (MRC). Weiss brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, and says, "I look forward to continuing the tradition of great golf and responsible management of these beautiful public resources for the City of Santa Fe." Join him for a meet-and-greet next week.

Grant Funding Approved for Local Businesses

The City has approved new grants for two local businesses under the state's Local Economic Development Act (LEDA), which combines City and State funding to provide resources to local businesses to help them expand and in turn increase their contributions to the local economy. Earth Traveler, a teardrop-trailer manufacturer, and local butcher and national delivery service Beck & Below were the recipients of the initial awards.

"Art in Public Places" Mural Completed at Salvador Perez

Organized by the Arts and Culture Department in collaboration with Alas de Agua Art Collective and its affiliates, El Agua Es Vida/Water is Life is a series of murals inside the pool facility weaving together stories highlighting the local and global realities about water. The murals show the role water plays in our lives: ancestral connection, agricultural development, recreational use, and its presence in the natural world.

Get Ready for Art by Bike!

Looking for a way to celebrate Bike Month? Then look no further – Art by Bike is this Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m-3 p.m.! Join family, friends, and neighbors to bike (or walk beside) a temporary protected bike lane from Frenchy’s Field to Siler Rd., and on Siler Rd. from Rufina St. to the River Trail. Along the route, you'll be able to enjoy art, music, and activity stations throughout the day. All Art by Bike events are FREE and family-friendly!
