Highlights from the Week of December 6, 2021
There's a lot going on in the City Different!
Green Light: Mobile Hygiene Unit
The City has added another public health tool for helping the unsheltered among us by providing access to sanitation facilities and navigation to housing and social services – and that's good for the whole community. The Mobile Hygiene Unit contains three full restrooms, including a shower, toilet, and sink. It will also serve as a hub for other services such as haircuts, medical care, and case management. The equipment was purchased with CARES Act money and the Governing Body approved funding for the team on Wednesday. Learn more here.
KSFB Wipes Out Graffiti
It was a collaborative effort to repaint stretches of the walls next to the Santa Fe River in De Vargas Park that had been graffitied (and clean up litter along the riverbed too). The City's non-profit partner Keep Santa Fe Beautiful (KSFB) worked with students from the MASTERS Program, the early college charter high school; the anti-graffiti staff from the Environmental Services Division; and volunteers from the KSFB Board of Directors. The crew made a big difference in just a few hours!
Girls Scouts Care for Park
The next generation of environmental stewards is on the way! Acting Parks Director Melissa McDonald and Mayor Webber met last Sunday with the young ladies of Girl Scout Troop 10777 at Marc Brandt Park on Siringo Road. They talked about trees and bees, flowers and water capture, all issues of the environment that the Troop members are studying and working on. Their goal is for their adopted park to have a thriving environment as a showcase for sustainability.
Holiday in Santa Fe Premieres
on Lifetime Tonight
If you missed the screenings at Violet Crown last Sunday, tune in to the Lifetime Network to see Holiday in Santa Fe, starting with the premiere this evening at 6. The feel-good family Christmas movie starring Mario Lopez was shot here last year, with the help of the Santa Fe Film Office. The production employed approximately 20 New Mexico crew members and 50 New Mexico background talent.
