As a next step in the robust community engagement effort planned as part of the conversion of our streetlights to energy-efficient LED's, the new santafeled.com website features educational content about lighting design, project benefits, project progress, and more.
Members of the public will be also be able to use the website to learn details of five demonstration projects at various locations around town, and to record their observations and feedback for use in the decision-making process about which types of lights are most suitable. The demo projects are scheduled to start next Friday.
After finalizing the community-guided design plan, the implementation of the LED streetlighting will begin this summer. All city-owned and utility-owned lights will be converted through this project over the course of four months.
The community-engagement efforts are already paying dividends: In response to overwhelming feedback from community members, the City has engaged a dark-skies advisor to help guide policy changes that would allow Santa Fe to pursue designation as an International Dark Sky Community.
