SHPD: Back to School Safety

As the 2018-2019 school year gets back into gear, the Signal Hill Police Department is focused on promoting student safety.

  • Motorists should obey all signs, signals and crossing guards in school zones
  • Do not double park in the street (this is a citeable offense)
  • Use designated school drop off zones
  • Slow down and watch for children walking/biking to school and for children exiting a school bus

Please be extra careful when driving near our schools and be patient. We can all do our part to keep our children safe.

Question of the Month: How Do I Hold a Garage Sale in Signal Hill?

If your home is feeling a bit cluttered, a garage sale is an excellent way to get rid of unwanted items and make some extra money. A permit is required to hold a garage sale in Signal Hill. Each address can have up to 3 garage sales per calendar year. The fee (per sale) is $20 for a maximum of two consecutive days. The completed application + payment must be submitted in-person at City Hall, at the Planning Counter. The link to the application form is: http://bit.ly/2EI0kNc The City does not currently accept online applications/payments for garage sale permits. For more information, contact the Community Development Department at 562-989-7340.
