Fall Fun in Signal Hill
Bring the whole family to Hounds on the Hill, Saturday, September 22! This pet-friendly event features food, music, vendors, kids' crafts, a bounce house and more! There will also be a pet adoption trailer, low-cost pet vaccinations, dog licensing, and microchipping available. Cats will be available for adoption, too! Pets must be on a leash at all times while at the park. This is a free, all-ages event. Call 562-989-7330 for more information.
Join us for the family-friendly Halloween Carnival at Signal Hill Park! Contests, crafts, food, games, candy, train rides, and more await you! Wristbands are required for all activities (ages 2+). Pre-sale wristbands are $3, available from October 15 - October 26 at the Community Services office at City Hall, the Youth Center, and the Signal Hill Public Library. Wristbands purchased day-of are $4. Call 562-989-7330 for more information.
Fall Mayor's Clean-Up on September 22

Join your neighbors and keep our community beautiful! Meet at the Gateway Center parking lot along California Avenue (across from the Signal Hill Dog Park). Sign-in at 9 a.m., orientation is at 9:10 a.m. No RSVP required.

Electric Lawn Mower Rebate Program Available Year-Round
The South Coast Air Quality Management District's Electric Lawn Mower Program is now available year-round as an after-purchase rebate to provide residents the opportunity to purchase a cordless, battery-electric lawn mower from a variety of eligible manufacturers. Rebates are $150, $200 or $250, depending on the retail cost of the new electric mower. Only residents of the SCAQMD’s four-county jurisdiction are eligible to participate.

SHPD: Back to School Safety

As the 2018-2019 school year gets back into gear, the Signal Hill Police Department is focused on promoting student safety.

  • Motorists should obey all signs, signals and crossing guards in school zones
  • Do not double park in the street (this is a citeable offense)
  • Use designated school drop off zones
  • Slow down and watch for children walking/biking to school and for children exiting a school bus

Please be extra careful when driving near our schools and be patient. We can all do our part to keep our children safe.
Register to Vote in the California General Election

The California General Election is November 6, 2018! Are you registered to vote? You can register online at To obtain a voter registration form by mail, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 562-989-7305.  You may also pick up a registration form at City Hall, 2175 Cherry Avenue, during regular business hours.
Library Construction Update
Signal Hill's future public library continues to take shape! This month, crews are starting construction of northern retaining walls and stairs, starting to construct the storm drain retention system, completing 1st floor wood framing and beginning wood framing on the 2nd floor. They'll also start constructing plumbing rough-ins on the second floor.

Question of the Month: How Do I Hold a Garage Sale in Signal Hill?

If your home is feeling a bit cluttered, a garage sale is an excellent way to get rid of unwanted items and make some extra money. A permit is required to hold a garage sale in Signal Hill. Each address can have up to 3 garage sales per calendar year. The fee (per sale) is $20 for a maximum of two consecutive days. The completed application + payment must be submitted in-person at City Hall, at the Planning Counter.
