You're Invited! Calbrisas Park Ribbon Cutting, Saturday Feb. 23
Join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Calbrisas Park, Saturday, February 23, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.! Enjoy the new playground and a new ADA-accessible rubberized play surface. Meet neighbors, elected officials and City staff, and enjoy free hot dogs plus kids' crafts and activities. Calbrisas Park is located at 2451 California Avenue, Signal Hill.
Signal Hill General Municipal Election: Tuesday, March 5
Save the date for the March 5, 2019 General Municipal Election - we hope you'll get out there and vote! Voters will be choosing two new members of the City Council, one City Clerk and one City Treasurer. Voters will also be choosing from two competing Charter Amendments to change future municipal election dates. Signal Hill's polling location is at the Discovery Well Park Community Center, 2200 Temple Avenue. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Please review the Election Information posted on our website at http://www.cityofsignalhill.org/2019Election. Drop Off Your Vote By Mail Ballot at City Hall
Signal Hill City Hall is an official Vote By Mail Drop-Off Location for the March 5 General Municipal Election. If you choose to Vote by Mail , you can conveniently drop off your completed ballot in our secure ballot box on the main floor. City Hall is located at 2175 Cherry Avenue, open Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. More Information
Library Construction Update
Despite all the recent rain, construction is still going strong on the future Public Library. Outside, crews have nearly completed the parking lot grading and the storm water retention system. They've also completed the terrace roof on the second floor. Inside, they completed the ceiling grid for the wood panel ceiling, and began installing drywall and insulation. Next month, crews hope to continue installing drywall, start plastering the exterior, and finish installing the electrical and plumbing systems. More Information

Thank you to all of the residents who participated in our recent focus groups and community meeting to provide your valuable feedback about the future of parks and recreation in Signal Hill. Saturday, March 2, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and the love of reading with story time, crafts and birthday cake. Space is limited, register by calling or visiting the Library. For kids in grades PreK - 5.
First Friday Book Club
Join us on the first Friday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Signal Hill Public Library. Participants are provided a copy of the books, light refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is required, call 562-989-7323 or visit the Library.
Astronomy Night
Tuesday, March 12, 6 - 8 p.m.
Hilltop Park, 2351 Dawson Avenue
Astronomers will visit Hilltop Park to educate guests about the moon and stars, featuring professional equipment for a close-up look at the night sky. Free, all ages.

Friends of the Signal Hill Library Spring Blowout Book Sale
The Friends of the Signal Hill Library will be selling quality gently used books, DVDs and audiobooks at low prices. The Spring Blowout Book Sale will offer all the books you can fit in one bag for $5 (FOSHL will provide the bag). The sale is Friday, March 1, from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on the Signal Hill Library Patio, 1780 E. Hill Street.
4th Annual Community Celebration &
Police Awards Celebration: Thursday, March 14
Join the Signal Hill Police Foundation for the 4th Annual Community Celebration and Police Awards Dinner, Thursday, March 14, 6:00 p.m. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 5761 East Colorado Street, Long Beach. Rainy Weather: Sandbags & Sand Available Free to Residents
Sandbags and sand are available free to City residents at the City Yard, located at 2175 E. 28th Street, open Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. They are self-fill, limit ten per resident. Please bring proof of residency. Call 562-989-7250 for more information.

Mayors Reception Tuesday March 26 8 pm at the Alpert JCC 3801 East Willow Street Long Beach. Help us welcome the new mayor and thank the outgoing mayor for her service. Refreshments provided, this event is free and all are welcome.
Question of the Month: What do I do if I received a parking citation?

You can pay a parking citation fee in-person by visiting the Signal Hill Police Department, 2745 Walnut Avenue, or the Finance counter at City Hall, open Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Citations can also be paid online through the Pay My Cite website, or by check through the self-addressed envelope attached to the citation. You may also request an Administrative Review within 21 days of citation issuance or within 14 days of the mailing of a delinquent penalty notice. You may pick up an Administrative Review Form at the Signal Hill Police Department or request that a form be mailed to you by calling 562-989-7200.
