Get Your Wristbands Early for the Annual Halloween Carnival
Signal Hill's Halloween Carnival is Saturday, October 26, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Signal Hill Park. Discounted wristbands are currently on sale! Stop by the Community Services offices, the Signal Hill Public Library, and the Youth Center. Please have exact change. Wristbands are $4 each through October 25. The cost will be $5 each during the event. All children must have a wristband to enjoy activities such as carnival games, jumpers, crafts, candy, train rides, and more. Deputy City Manager Hannah Shin-Heydorn Appointed to City Manager
The City of Signal Hill is pleased to announce the appointment of current Deputy City Manager Hannah Shin-Heydorn (pictured) to the role of City Manager, effective November 2, 2019. Current City Manager Charlie Honeycutt is retiring after a 32-year career with the City of Signal Hill. We are grateful for his service, and wish him all the best.
Fall Fun at the Signal Hill Public Library
Announcing a new bilingual Story Time! Spanish-Bilingual Story Time will be held Thursday, November 14, and Thursday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Announcing a new bilingual Story Time! Khmer-Bilingual Story Time will be held Saturday, November 2, and Saturday, December 7. This story time features traditional songs and stories from Cambodia. All ages are welcome, however the stories are geared toward children between 1 and 5 years old. Sponsored by the Cambodian Association of America.

Come read and rate new books at the Library this fall! Once a month, staff will set up a selection of acclaimed books for patrons to review, comment and discuss at Book Tastings . Register Your Child for Cookies With Santa
Enjoy an evening of holiday cheer with your child! Cookies with Santa is Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. Join Santa and Mrs. Claus for story time, cookies, crafts, singalongs, and more. Bring your camera, as children will have the chance to take photos on Santa's lap. This event is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required. Registration begins Monday, November 4 for residents, and Tuesday, November 12 for non-residents. Space is limited, please register early as this event will sell out. Free Bulky Item Pickup Week is November 4 - 8
EDCO's Fall Free Bulky Item Collection Week is November 4 - 8. Place your bulky items out on the curb on your regularly scheduled collection day, or you can drop them off all week at the EDCO Transfer Station, 2755 California Avenue. If you live in a multi-family building, please call EDCO to schedule your free bulky item pickup no later than the week of October 28. For more information, call EDCO, the City of Signal Hill's exclusive waste hauler, at 562-597-0608.
Living With Coyotes in Southern California
Coyotes have become a part of living in Southern California due to an abundance of resources provided by humans. We ask all residents to report coyote sightings directly to Long Beach Animal Care Services online or at 562-570-7387. The City of Signal Hill contracts with LBACS for all animal-related services.

Many people do not know how to prevent coyotes from entering their neighborhoods or how to manage coyotes that have already arrived. Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is Wednesday, December 4
Mark your calendars for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony! Ring in the holidays with us on Wednesday, December 4, at Discovery Well Park, 2200 Temple Avenue. Santa arrives at 5:30 p.m. and the tree lighting begins at 6:00 p.m. We'll have festive treats, crafts, train rides, pictures with Santa, music, and more. This free event is brought to you by the City of Signal Hill and the City of Long Beach. Please call 562-989-7330 for more information.
Serve Your Community on the Civil Grand Jury
The Los Angeles County Superior Court is looking for qualified citizens to join the Civil Grand Jury. The LA County Civil Grand Jury primarily investigates county, city and joint-power agencies. The Grand Jury also serves as a watchdog by examining the operations of various goverment agencies within the County.

This position has a commitment of 30-40 hours per week for 12 months starting July 2020, Monday through Friday. Members receive $60 for each full day of service. You must be able to attend every grand jury session.
