We are at the tail-end of construction season! We have updates on the Maple Street Bridge and Garland Pathway projects and remind you to report potholes to 311 and start preparing for snow season.

Throughout the week, northbound Maple St. Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Southbound Maple St. will have one lane open at all times. Please continue to utilize Washington and Division streets to relieve pressure off of Monroe St. when possible.

Work WITH Us during construction season:

  • Allow for More Time and Patience
  • Slow Down and Stay Alert
  • Follow Designated Detours and Obey Speed Limits

Weekly Obstruction Notice

Happy Halloween!

Tonight, as the moon casts its eerie glow, your Spokane Fire Department urges you to tread cautiously through the shadows. Make sure your presence is known to all, for the spirits of Halloween awaken. Stay far from the cursed streets; venture only at the spectral crossroads. May your Halloween be shrouded in spine-tingling delights and otherworldly safety!

Halloween Safety Tips

🎃 Use a battery-operated candle or glow-stick in jack-o-lanterns.

👻 When choosing costumes stay away from long trailing fabric.

🎃 Teach children to stay away from open flames including jack-o-lanterns with candles in them.

👻 Dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like lightbulbs and heaters.

🎃 Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes. Make sure all smoke alarms in the home are working.

Your City at Work

Winter Is Coming!

City of Spokane Street Department is preparing for snow season and encourages the community to do the same. The community is urged to take time now to prepare for the winter snow removal season:

  • Move your recreational vehicle, boat or trailer, and basketball hoops off the street and to a winter storage location for the snow season. As a reminder, RVs, boats, and trailers cannot exceed 24 hours of continuous on-street parking, according to Spokane Municipal Code.
  • Make sure you have adequate snow shovels or a working snow blower. Consider buying some salt or sand.
  • Arrange for service with a snow removal company if you don’t want to shovel yourself.
  • Plan where to park throughout the snow season to make room for large equipment to clear the street. Residents are asked to park on the odd-numbered side of the street during snow season to leave a maximum amount of room for plows.
  • Know what residential snow-plow route you live in to make it easier to track the progress of plows, during full-city plow operations.
  • Talk to your neighbors. Make sure you know who in your neighborhood might need help with shoveling or other winter work and offer to help. Consider signing up to volunteer for a community group that provides snow removal services for those in need.

Take The Beacon Hill Survey

As Make Beacon Hill Public moves into its second phase, your input is important to the planning process. Spokane County and Spokane Parks and Recreation want to hear from you about what is foremost when you visit the area. Take the survey!

Friends of the Centennial Trail have pledged a $15,000 Trail Builder's Fund grant for John H. Shields Park and Camp Sekani renovations and enhancements for Make Beacon Hill Public Phase 2. Including an Upriver Drive crosswalk to the Centennial Trail in this project is highly important to us for public safety. Read more about the Make Beacon Hill Public Project on the Spokane County website.
