Street Maintenance Matters
Maintaining 2,200 lane miles in a freeze-thaw climate requires strategy and that is why the City has a Six-Year Comprehensive Streets Plan. Some of the things we do to prevent pavement deterioration are crack sealing, chip sealing, and grind and overlay maintenance. For example, when we fill cracks in the pavement, water is less likely to fill them in, freeze, expand, and thaw again creating potholes or worse damage. Learn more about street condition ratings, pavement management, and repair here!

City Returns to Level 1 Water Restrictions
River levels are recovering and are now over the 1,000 cubic feet per second minimum level. This moves the Drought Response Ordinance Measure back to Level 1. Remember, with cooler nights and shorter days in September, your landscape needs less water, so you can reduce your irrigation run-time and frequency. It’s also the perfect time to aerate, setting the stage for a healthier, more resilient lawn come spring. Learn more at WaterWiseSpokane.org.

UHelp Program Needs Assistance
In 2013, the City of Spokane began a program to support households who qualify with one-time emergency financial assistance to help pay for their City utility bills, which includes charges for water, wastewater, stormwater, and garbage collection. The UHelp program is funded through donations with a dollar-for-dollar match provided by a designated Public Works fund of up to $50,000 each year. To continue to serve the need moving forward, more donations are needed.
You can donate online, by phone, or by mail. Click here to learn more about the UHelp program.
