Celebrating Black History Month
Mayor Lisa Brown presented this year's Black History Month proclamation to Jillisa Winkler, the Executive Director of The Carl Maxey Center. The Carl Maxey Center is hosting the annual Sandy Williams Black Business Expo on Saturday, Feb 22, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. The event will highlight Black-owned and operated businesses and entrepreneurs in Spokane.

Mayor Lisa Brown Signs Special Events Executive Order
Hosting a neighborhood block party or a special event shouldn’t be difficult. Mayor Lisa Brown signed an executive order to strengthen community events by reducing costs for both organizers and the City, and tasking staff with eliminating barriers to establishing new cultural events and growing existing ones. Full-City Plow Completed Feb. 9
The City completed the first Full-City Plow of the 2024-2025 winter season on Sunday, Feb. 9. By the numbers, crews drove enough lane miles to make it to Chicago and back! Thank you to our Streets, Water, and Wastewater crew members for teaming up to make this happen within the goal of three days. Residents who think their block may have been missed can report it by contacting 311. The Streets Department remains in winter operations until March 15.
By the Numbers for Feb. 6-9:
- Lane Miles Driven = 3,551
- Liquid Deicer = 90,3015 gallons (45 truckloads)
- Solid Deicer = 192 tons (35 truckloads)
- Sand = 163 tons (16 truckloads)

Join ‘Adopt A Neighbor'
Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington's Adopt A Neighbor initiative is looking for compassionate groups in Spokane County willing to assist seniors and individuals with disabilities during the snowy season. The initiative seeks groups such as clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, community centers, and schools. Individuals interested in participating will be paired with a group. City Services on Presidents' Day
Presidents' Day is Monday, Feb. 17 here is what you need to know.

Garbage and recycling pickup will proceed as usual.
- The Waste to Energy Facility will be open. The public is also welcome to see where your trash goes! Tour registration is required in advance.

Spokane City Hall will be open including Spokane 311 and Development Services Center.

Riverfront Park attractions will be open.

Spokane Public Library branches will be closed.

On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment. Please remember all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.

Spokane City Council is not scheduled to meet.

Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be available by phone only.

Climate Planning Memos Recently Published
How is Spokane impacted by changing weather conditions and how can we address those impacts? Those two questions were asked to develop two key deliverables of the City of Spokane’s Climate Planning efforts that are now available to the public. A Spokane Climate Impacts and Climate Justice Memo identifies climate trends affecting Spokane, as well as the vulnerable populations and overburdened communities that are impacted first and worst, while the Spokane Climate Policy Audit analyzes and summarizes existing climate-related plans, policies, and regulations.
