EPA Selects Spokane To Receive Brownfields Grant

The City’s Brownfields Program helped connect the Spokane Low Income Housing Consortium (SLICH) to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield grant opportunity that led to a $500,000 award for the Spokane Land Bank, properties dedicated toward low-income housing. Target areas for the grant are Northeast, East Central and West Central Spokane. “This opportunity only came about because of (City Economic Development Planner) Teri Stripes and the City of Spokane's Brownfields Program,” SLICH Executive Director Ben Stuckart said. “We are so appreciative of our partnership and the opportunities that arise because of the great work with our community collaboration.” Read the EPA press release here.

Give the Street Sweeping Crew a Hand!

City street maintenance crews are responsible for the cleaning of all city streets. We have 1,460 lane miles of residential streets and 760 lane miles of arterial streets. You may have seen them out and about already as they have started working the residential routes. Each crew is made up of a mechanical broom, street flusher, and hauling truck to pick up heavy and fine debris. For more information and a route schedule visit the City’s website. You can help by avoiding on-street parking and placing your curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste cars on the sidewalk if they are coming through on your collection day of the week.
