Indigenous Peoples Day Holiday

Monday, Oct. 9, marks the City of Spokane's eighth observance of Indigenous Peoples Day!

  • On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment, but remember even when parking is free on holidays, all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.
  • Solid Waste Services will proceed on a normal schedule.
  • Spokane City Council briefing session and legislative meeting will be held on their regular schedule.

Development Services Center Adjusts Hours Wednesday Mornings to Focus on Permit Load

As a way of maximizing staff time to focus on plan reviews to reduce project timelines this fall, the Development Services Center (DSC) on the third floor of Spokane City Hall will be open to walk-ins from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays through at least the end of the year. Calls will go to voicemail from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. The DSC will remain open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more information.

Bike Town Hall

Senator Andy Billig and City Council Member Zack Zappone invite the public to a Town Hall Bike Ride on Friday, Oct. 6, 12 - 1 p.m. The ride will start at the University District Gateway Bridge north landing and end at Bennidito’s BrewPub for an optional no-host lunch. The event will be an opportunity to engage with local leaders and staff and discuss transportation issues, including pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. Those interested should arrive with their bicycle and helmet at the University District Gateway Bridge north landing by noon. Click here for more info.

Speed Feedback Trailers On Last Deployment

The 2023 Mobile Speed Feedback trailers, reminding Spokane motorists of the posted speed and if they are speeding, are on the last deployment and will go back to storage on Friday, Oct. 13.

Public Comments Accepted for CHHS Report

The City’s Community, Housing, and Human Services (CHHS) Department is accepting public comments on the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) through tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 4. The CHHS Board will also hold a public hearing on the CAPER on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 4 p.m. in the Council Briefing Center in the lower level of Spokane City Hall. Written comments may be emailed or provided via phone.

Spokane Awarded $12M Grant for Urban Forestry

Spokane is receiving $12 million in grants aimed at improving the tree canopy in our community! Funds will be used to plant and care for trees in areas of Spokane where fewer exist to create more equitable canopy coverage, and provide community forestry education. Learn more on our website.

Liberty Park Receives New Playground

The new Liberty Park playground is open! The renovated park includes a new 4,000+ square foot playground, with a rubberized walking surface, equipment selected by neighborhood children. Adjacent to the playground is a new disc golf course. A renovated restroom facility and large picnic pavilion is also onsite. More info on our website.

Susie's Trail Head Ceremony 2023

Susie Stephens Trail Is Open

Phase I of the Susie Stephens Trail is open! When fully completed, the .7-mile connector trail named for environmentalist and well-known bicycle and pedestrian safety advocate, Susie Stephens, will span from Woodland Center in Finch Arboretum to the intersection of 13th Ave. and Lindeke St., where it will connect with the Fish Lake Trail. Riverfront Butterfly Coming Soon!

Riverfront's iconic lilac butterfly will again get its wings, as it is reconstructed after high winds brought it down in January 2021. Construction has begun and will last about two weeks. Click here for more info.

Volunteer clean-up days scheduled for September, October

Volunteer Clean-Up Days consisting of graffiti cleanup and litter pickup are scheduled this month in Spokane.


The schedule includes:

  • Friday, Oct. 6 – A graffiti cover-up and litter pick-up organized by ONS will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the East Central neighborhood. Meet at the Liberty Park Library, 402 S. Pittsburg St., at 10 a.m. for an orientation and supplies. Sign up on Eventbrite.com.
  • Friday, Oct. 13 – A graffiti cover-up and litter pick-up organized by ONS will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Riverside neighborhood. Volunteers meet at the Grocery Outlet parking lot, 1617 E. Third Ave., at 10 a.m. Sign up on Eventbrite.com.
