Construction Zone
The Maple St. Bridge and TJ Meenach Drive construction projects will be impacting traffic in west Spokane.
Beginning, Saturday, Sept. 16, single-lane traffic in each direction will be open on TJ Meenach Dr. at Northwest Blvd.
Maple St. Bridge night grinding is ahead of schedule and crews are moving to the southbound lanes tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 12.

FULL CLOSURE for SOUTHBOUND ONLY LANES OVERNIGHT starting at 8 p.m. and will open daily to traffic at 6 a.m.

Northbound travel will be reduced to one lane between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily.
FULL CLOSURE ALL HOURS for northbound lanes starting Monday, Sept. 18 until approximately Friday, Oct. 6.

The Development Services Center on the Third Floor of Spokane City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for division engagement. Calls during that time will be forwarded to voicemail.

Hillayrd Walking Tour & Community Workshop

Comp Plan Amendment Applications To Be Accepted
Pre-submittal meetings for citizens, developers and adjacent jurisdictions to apply for amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan are being scheduled. To schedule a pre-submittal meeting or to ask amendment process questions, contact us via phone or email. During the pre-submittal meeting, applications will be provided. The application period is from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31. More info is on our website.

Spokane City Parks Makes Irrigation Improvements on Golf Courses
Since 2019, Spokane Parks & Recreation has completed projects that save approximately 70 million gallons annually through golf course irrigation upgrades, improvements to the ponds in Manito Park, and turf reduction zones. From Trash to Treasure: Recycling Works! That’s the theme for the 2023 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest. City Seeks Community Feedback on Proposed Housing Code Changes
The City of Spokane is seeking public comments through Wednesday, Oct. 4, on proposed housing changes to the Spokane Municipal Code as part of its Building Opportunity for Housing project aimed at addressing the housing crisis. Public open houses for the development code change proposals are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 19, 12 - 1 p.m. at Central Library and Thursday, Sept. 21, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. via Teams. Property Transfer Public Hearing Scheduled For Sept. 25
The Spokane City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. on a resolution that would approve the transfer of property at 3011 E. Wellesley Ave. in Hillyard from the City to the Northeast Public Development Authority (NEPDA). In November 2017, the building sustained extensive fire damage and was condemned as uninhabitable. The NEPDA has plans for a mixed-use building with 30 affordable housing units and ground floor commercial use. Click here for the details.

Volunteer clean-up days scheduled for September, October
Volunteer Clean-Up Days consisting of graffiti cleanup and litter pickup are scheduled in September and October in Spokane.
The schedule includes:

Saturday, Sept. 16 – The Lands Council and the City of Spokane will partner on the 20th annual Spokane River Cleanup from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is a self-guided event. Start whenever you want in that timeframe. There won’t be a morning volunteer briefing. Bags can be picked up from Wednesday, Sept. 13, through Friday, Sept. 15, from noon to 3 p.m. or 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Saranac Lobby, 25 W. Main St. Bags will not be distributed to volunteers on the river. If you do not pick up bags, please use your own. Trash must be at designated places marked by the cones by 2 p.m. as that is when the City will pick it up. To sign up or for more information, visit the Lands Council website. Summer Fun: Maren Morris Performing at S.A.F.E. Fall Festival
The Spokane Alliance for Fentanyl Education (S.A.F.E.) is proud to announce a powerful and impactful event aimed at raising awareness about the pressing issue of fentanyl and its devastating consequences in our community. The Fall Festival is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Spokane Pavilion.
The Fall Festival will feature an exceptional lineup of artists including country music superstar Maren Morris, Spokane-based singer-songwriter Sammy Eubanks, and other local musicians to be announced who are lending their voices to this vital cause. Attendees can expect an evening filled with family friendly music, yard games, and the opportunity to learn about all of Spokane’s resources related to addiction, prevention, treatment, recovery and support.
Tickets for the S.A.F.E. Fall Festival cost $25. Each ticket holder will receive a $10.00 food voucher. Tickets are available for purchase at spokanepavilion.com, the proceeds of which will go towards funding the foundation's initiatives, including educational programs, outreach efforts to end the tragic stories in our community.

On the Bright Side
Six new officers are coming to Spokane neighborhoods. Chief Meidl swore in the officers, who came from other northwest departments. Mayor Woodward welcomed the officers and their families, and praised the great experience and passion for community each brings to the Spokane Police Department.
