Registration Ends Sunday for Spokane Neighborhood Summit
The City’s Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) invites any Spokane resident who is an aspiring or current member of a neighborhood council to its free Spokane Neighborhood Summit and community resource fair on Saturday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Spokane Fire Department Training Center. Workshop topics include, but are not limited to: Leveraging Community Partners for Sustainable Impact; Diversifyting Funding Streams; Working with City Government; Social Media; and Facilitating an Effective Meeting. Registration is open on Eventbrite through Sunday, Oct. 22.

DSC Adjusts Hours Wednesday Mornings to Focus on Permit Load
As a way of maximizing staff time to focus on plan reviews to reduce project timelines this fall, the Development Services Center (DSC) on the third floor of Spokane City Hall has adjusted its hours on Wednesdays through at least the end of the year and will be open to walk-ins from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Calls will go to voicemail from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. The DSC will remain open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more information.

Be a Part of Shaping the Future of Centers and Corridors
Open houses for the City’s Centers and Corridors Study are set for Thursday, Oct. 26, 4:30 - 7 p.m. at Central Library and virtually on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 6 - 7 p.m. A short community survey is also open through Sunday, Nov. 12. The project will identify which land-use strategies have been successful and ones that may need updated in the City’s next Comprehensive Plan. Read our blog post to learn more.

100 New Street Trees Coming to North Spokane

Survey To Help Shape The Future Of Hillyard
What is your wish for Hillyard? Do you want to see more jobs and businesses? Are you interested in more ways to get around by walking, biking, or transit? Are there enough housing options? What about parks and community-building events? Take a survey that is part of the Hillyard Subarea Plan process and open during the month of October. The City, the Northeast Public Development Authority and consultants have embarked on the plan initiative aimed to support revitalization, attract redevelopment/ investment, and improve quality of life in Hillyard, the legacy industrial district and vicinity.

Street Sweeping Continues
City street maintenance crews are responsible for cleaning 1,460 lane miles of residential streets and 760 lane miles of arterial streets. Each crew is made up of a mechanical broom, street flusher, and hauling truck to pick up heavy and fine debris. For more information and a route schedule visit the City’s website.

Join ‘Adopt A Neighbor, ’ Make Winter Brighter for Seniors, Individuals with Disabilities!
Long Term Care of Eastern Washington is launching a volunteer snow removal assistance program called Adopt A Neighbor for seniors in need and those with disabilities. The initiative seeks groups such as clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, community centers and schools in Spokane County. Individuals interested in participating will be paired with a group. On the Bright Side
Over the weekend, history came to life through photos, newspapers, and many other items that uplift and celebrate Black history in Spokane. Roughly 540 items were scanned and added to a digital archive for the community to have easier and more centralized access to this rich history. If you didn't make it to the event but have items you'd like to copy and add to the archive please email the library!
