Message from the Mayor
Warmer weather is here and that means it's construction season! While road closures can be frustrating, I appreciate your patience as our city crews work to improve our infrastructure and make our streets safer. Please help us help you by slowing down and following the guidance of our flaggers.

Mayor Lisa Brown Signs Executive Order
Last week, Mayor Lisa Brown signed an executive order directing a new Economic Development Priority Review Policy to take effect immediately. Spokane wants to own the permitting and infrastructure process to promote development and bring new jobs here to the Inland Northwest.

Lunch with Lisa
Mayor Lisa Brown hosted two more Lunch with Lisa events. The lunches are a great way for City Hall staff to meet the Mayor and the Mayor's Office staff.

Three Construction Projects Started This Week
The City of Spokane started three construction projects this week! Pedestrian safety improvements on Division St., a water main replacement project on Ray St., and a grind and overlay project on Sunset Hwy. WSDOT also started a project on Euclid Ave.

Perry St. Closed for Construction Worker Safety
We closed Perry St. between 29th Ave and 30th Ave. for the safety of our construction crew. We had too many close calls with drivers not following our flagger's instructions and nearly hitting our workers. This closure will be in place through Friday, April 19. Please slow down, follow detour signs, and put your phones down. These workers have families and friends waiting for them to come home!

Spokane River Remains Closed at Greene St. Bridge
The Spokane River at Greene Street is closed to all water activities as construction of the North Spokane Corridor continues. More information on the Washington State Department of Transportation's website.

Public Safety Community Meetings
The City of Spokane is hosting Public Safety Community Meetings to seek input on the community’s public safety priorities. The meetings are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, April 16, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Park Library
- Tuesday, April 30, 5:30 - 7 p.m. virtual meeting.
Visit saferspokane.org to learn more and take the public survey. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, and Marshallese.

Earth Day Family Celebration
Bring the family to Central Library for an afternoon of sustainable, green fun! 300 FREE trees are available for those who visit all partner booths and learn something new!
Families with children 18 and younger are invited to participate in a variety of fun, green, family-friendly activities to make something out of recycled materials, learn how to be more sustainable in their everyday life, and take home seeds or a whole tree! Details on the library's website.

Spring on the Ave in Sprague Union District Set for Saturday
Spring on the Ave in the Sprague Union District is Saturday, April 20. More than 25 businesses will participate in the event organized by the East Sprague Business Improvement District featuring spring-themed activities throughout the district. Hours vary by location, but 10 a.m. is the estimated start time for events. You can play the $1,000 Shop Hop Giveaway for a chance to win one of three district shopping sprees. South Logan Project Virtual Information Session On April 30
The public is invited to participate in a virtual information session on Tuesday, April 30, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for the South Logan Transit-Oriented Development Project in which citywide and area-specific development code changes are being proposed.

Learn About West Central Project During Neighborhood Events
City staff will have an information table for the West Central Infrastructure Project on Saturday, April 27, including during a Neighborhood Clean-up Day at the West Central Community Center from 9 to 11 a.m. and during the El Mercadito Market at AM Cannon Park from noon to 3 p.m. Information for walking, biking and driving projects will be available, and attendees are invited to share their thoughts on project priorities. Residents can also visit the virtual open house and fill out a survey on priorities that closes at the end of the day on Sunday, May 5. If you have questions send us an email.

Summer Camps Are Filling Up Fast
There's no excuse for boredom this summer! Whether your kiddo is artsy, sporty, outdoorsy, or into science and technology, we've got a camp they'll love. Art, science, sports, outdoor adventures, horseback riding, and adaptive camps just for those with disabilities are all on the menu this year. Water Wise Wednesday Workshops
Learn how to read and interpret pesticide and herbicide labels, understand ingredients, and navigate laws and regulations in this Water Wise Wednesday Workshop on Wednesday, April 17. Weekly classes on varying topics are FREE every Wednesday through April 24. Visit the workshop page for more class information!

Centers and Corridors Study workshops Scheduled
Two workshops related to the City Planning Department’s Centers and Corridors Update Study are scheduled. A workshop geared toward real estate professionals but open to everyone will be held Tuesday, April 23, from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Shadle Park Library. Another community workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 1, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Central Library. The workshops will include a discussion on opportunities and challenges, a presentation about proposed updates, and an opportunity to provide feedback on recommendations. Funds Available For Affordable Housing
The City’s Community, Housing, and Human Services Department is providing notice that an estimated $3,495,200 in federal funds through the 2024 HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) for affordable housing development is available to apply for through Wednesday, May 1. The program is intended for affordable housing projects that are highly viable, cost effective, project-ready (completed within 12 to 18 months) and that leverage additional funding from public and private sources. The Request for Proposals and scoring criteria are on the City website.

Earth Day River Cleanup
Join Spokane Riverkeeper for the largest river cleanup of the year on Saturday, April 20, at Highbridge Park and People’s Park. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Spring Dreams: Arbor Day Celebration and Spring Compost Fair
The annual Arbor Day Celebration and Spring Compost Fair will take place at the Finch Arboretum on Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Spokane County residents can learn about composting from Master Composters/Recyclers. If you participate in the composting activity stations and are a Spokane County resident you can receive a free compost bin. Learn more on the City website.
