Crosswalk to Crosswalk Walk Against Hate
The City of Spokane is walking against hate, following recent and repeated vandalism to the crosswalk and Odyssey building in the Perry District along with the mural at Spokane Falls Blvd. and Howard.
The Crosswalk to Crosswalk Walk is Thursday, Oct. 12 and will begin at 12:50 p.m. on the edge of Grant Park at 10th & Perry with a few brief remarks, followed by the walk to downtown at about 1 p.m. The walk should take about an hour and is between 2.5 and 3 miles long. City staff leaders will guide the group on the route.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for cool weather. You can ride back to the Perry District on STA Route 45 with your bus pass or $2!

DSC Adjusts Hours Wednesday Mornings to Focus on Permit Load
As a way of maximizing staff time to focus on plan reviews to reduce project timelines this fall, the Development Services Center (DSC) on the third floor of Spokane City Hall has adjusted its hours on Wednesdays through at least the end of the year and will be open to walk-ins from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Calls will go to voicemail from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. The DSC will remain open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more information.

Spokane Recycles Poster Contest Ends Friday
From Trash to Treasure: Recycling Works! That’s the theme for the 2023 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest. Selected artwork will be used to educate residents on the importance of reducing waste as we work towards conserving resources by giving new life to recyclables. Community Scanning Day This Saturday
Having representation in archives is one way to help honor and understand the past, and to have your community be represented, known, and celebrated. Visit the Carl Maxey Center on Saturday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. to share items and stories that represent your life or your family’s lives in the Black community (whether very recently or long ago) to be scanned for a public digital archive. Grant Park's New Playground Is Open!
Grant Park's new playground is officially open! The new playground includes a saucer swing, rope climbers, merry go round, and monkey bars for children to enjoy climbing, swinging, and spinning together.

Progress on the US 195 Corridor
The US 195 corridor stretching between Sunset Highway and Hatch Road has seen many changes as it continues to see increased activity and growth. Increased traffic and housing units being built are visible every day. Planning for growth and capacity is not as obvious. Click here to learn more!

Cochran Basin Project Update
City of Spokane has been working on a series of Cochran Basin infrastructure projects over the last few years. Stormwater from over 5,000 acres makes its way to this area in northwest Spokane every day. The Cochran Basin Control Facility is the last of the projects and is one more way we are keeping the Spokane River clean with the City's Integrated Clean Water Plan. Survey To Help Shape The Future Of Hillyard
What is your wish for Hillyard? Do you want to see more jobs and businesses? Are you interested in more ways to get around by walking, biking, or transit? Are there enough housing options? What about parks and community-building events? Take a survey that is part of the Hillyard Subarea Plan process and open during the month of October. The City, the Northeast Public Development Authority and consultants have embarked on the plan initiative aimed to support revitalization, attract redevelopment/ investment, and improve quality of life in Hillyard, the legacy industrial district and vicinity.

Town Hall Draws Biking Community
City Planning staff and the Bicycle Advisory Board helped organize a Town Hall Bike Ride on Friday, Oct. 6, featuring Senator Andy Billig and Council Member Zack Zappone. The ride started at the University District Gateway Bridge and ended at Bennidito’s BrewPub. The event was an opportunity to engage with local leaders and staff and discuss transportation issues, including pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

Spokane Neighborhood Summit Offers Free Workshops, Resource Fair
The City’s Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) invites any Spokane resident who is an aspiring or current member of a neighborhood council to its free Spokane Neighborhood Summit and community resource fair on Saturday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Spokane Fire Department Training Center. Workshop topics include, but are not limited to: Leveraging Community Partners for Sustainable Impact; Diversifyting Funding Streams; Working with City Government; Social Media; and Facilitating an Effective Meeting. Registration is open on Eventbrite through Sunday, Oct. 22. On Friday, Nov. 3, ONS is also offering tours of the Riverside Park Water Reclamation Facility and the Upriver Dam. Register here.

Join ‘Adopt A Neighbor, ’ Make Winter Brighter for Seniors, Individuals with Disabilities!
Long Term Care of Eastern Washington is launching a volunteer snow removal assistance program called Adopt A Neighbor for seniors in need and those with disabilities. The initiative seeks groups such as clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, community centers and schools in Spokane County. Individuals interested in participating will be paired with a group.
