City Offering Curbside Tree Recycling

The City is offering free curbside tree pickup through Friday, Jan. 6. Once the decorations are removed, residents can place their fresh-cut trees at least three feet away from the garbage and recycling carts on their regularly scheduled garbage pickup days. No artificial or flocked trees are accepted through this service. More info on our website.

CHHS Celebrates 2022 Accomplishments

Bolstered by the addition of eight new staff despite a tough hiring climate coming out of the pandemic in 2022, your City’s Community Health and Human Services (CCHS) Department distributed a total of $40 million in funding from federal, state and local sources subrecipients in the regional fight to reduce homelessness and tackle the housing crisis. Read the list of accomplishments on the human services and affordable housing fronts on our website.

Give Them Space!

Did you know that heating is the second leading cause of U.S. home fires, deaths and injuries? December, January and February are the peak months for heating fires according to the National Fire Protection Association. If you use space heaters, make sure you give them space, and turn them off when you go to sleep, or leave the room.

Stronger Together

Thank you for your support to clear sidewalks, park on the odd side of the street, report potholes, and create a path for water to reach storm drains! City of Spokane Public Works teams are being put to the test by Mother Nature so far this winter season. Street Department crews have completed three full-City plows since early November, maintaining more than 10,000 lane miles. The network of Combined System Overflow tanks has held millions of gallons of run-off so it could be processed over time to protect the Spokane River. And now street maintenance crews are chasing down and filling potholes as they receive reports.

Point-In-Time Count Volunteers Needed

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable population? Volunteers are needed for the 2023 Point-In-Time Count as surveys of the homeless population throughout Spokane County will be conducted Jan. 25 - 29. Sign up to be a volunteer online. The count is a requirement of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) to determine funding for homeless services and is used by regional planners to make system improvements. Volunteers work in teams to survey individuals, youth and families using an app on their phone. Volunteers must participate in at least one one-hour virtual training session. More information is on the City’s website. If you have questions, email kbabb@spokanecity.org.
