Washington St. Corridor Construction
Starting, Monday, April 8, the intersection of Washington St. and Boone Ave. will be closed for water, storm, and signal work to replace pipes from the early 1920s. The intersection is estimated to be closed until the week of April 21. Following this closure, Washington St. will have lane restrictions for grind and overlay work between North River Dr. and Maxwell Ave. Motorists are urged to utilize Division St., Monroe St., and the Maple/Ash corridor as alternate routes. If you are attending events at the venues in the area, please plan for extra time.
This is the first of three Washington St. corridor projects for the 2024 construction season. The Washington-Stevens corridor is an important gateway to the event and park facilities concentrated on the North Bank of the Spokane River. Improving this corridor will smooth travel to the Spokane Arena, One Spokane Stadium, the Podium, and the major playground in Riverfront Park, serving our community and visitors.

Pedestrian Safety Emphasized During Spring Break
As Spokane Public Schools students are released for spring break this week and spring weather improves, the City reminds motorists to slow down and watch for pedestrians crossing streets as more children and families are out and about. Even though the City has added several pedestrian improvements throughout the community, Spokane Police saw a 44 percent increase in the number of pedestrian collisions in 2023 over 2022. Additionally, nine pedestrian fatalities accounted for half of the 18 total motor-vehicle fatalities in 2023. Major contributing factors to pedestrian-involved collisions are people crossing streets inappropriately and inattentive drivers. Visit our website for more information.
