Mental Health Awareness Week
Mayor Nadine Woodward remembers Frontier Behavioral Health CEO Jeff Thomas, a pioneer of integrated mental healthcare in Spokane. Jeff, who committed his professional life to mental health, passed away from an illness.

Construction Zone
The Maple St. Bridge deck replacement project is coming along nicely. Crews have been grinding off the layer in need of repair and are prepping the surface to lay specialized concrete. You may have noticed there has been intermittent access in each direction to cross the bridge. This happens without predictability and communicating minor changes in traffic will cause significant confusion. We will continue to update the public on major traffic plan changes. Keep in mind, TJ Meenach Dr. is open with one lane in each direction. Thank you for your patience!

Development Services Center Adjusts Hours Wednesday Mornings to Focus on Permit Load
As a way of maximizing staff time to focus on plan reviews to reduce project timelines this fall, the Development Services Center (DSC) on the third floor of Spokane City Hall will be closed to walk-ins on Wednesdays from 8 to 11 a.m. starting tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 27, through at least the end of the year. Three Feet Apart Cart Spacing
The City of Spokane reminds residents to place their garbage, recycling, and yard waste carts at least 3 feet apart.

New Parking Payment Pilot Project to Launch in Two Areas
The City of Spokane is piloting a new parking payment option in two areas that will have a mobile-payment-only option via a Parking Box. The pilot project will last from late September until the end of 2023. Find out where the locations are and read more about it on the City website.

Spokane Recycles Poster Contest
From Trash to Treasure: Recycling Works! That’s the theme for the 2023 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest. Selected artwork will be used to educate residents on the importance of reducing waste as we work towards conserving resources by giving new life to recyclables. Be a Coca-Cola Scholar
The Coca-Cola Scholars application is open! High school seniors can apply for a $20,000 college scholarship to the college of their choice. The deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 2. Click here to learn more.

Youth Behavior Health Grant Available
The deadline for the 2023 Youth Behavioral Health Grant, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, is Friday, Nov. 3. This program’s purpose is to provide last-in capital dollars to assist in a construction project or expansion of an existing facility. This construction must result in and/or expand services to at risk youth that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

ONE Spokane Stadium Is Open!
The ONE Spokane Stadium opened today! The multi-million project was approved as a bond measure by voters in 2018. We are looking forward to the dedication of the re-named Joe Albi Way later this week as part of this overall project. Visit the Spokane Public Schools website for information on the Community Open House and upcoming games! If you’re attending a Spokane Schools event, be sure to print out a parking pass for designated lots.

Community Scanning Day
Share your memories and help preserve the past! Bring your photographs, letters, small objects, & printed materials to the Carl Maxey Center on Saturday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. to have them scanned for a public digital archive about Black Spokane. Free Business Workshops Scheduled
Main Street America, a national network of neighborhoods and communities that helps revitalize older and historic commercial districts, and Grow with Google will offer free virtual workshops for small businesses on Thursday, Oct. 5 and Tuesday, Nov. 14. The live trainings include how to connect with customers, sell more products online and improve business productivity. The Market Street and Sprague business districts in Spokane received state Main Street awards in the past for projects associated with the City.

Public Comments Accepted for CHHS Report
The City’s Community, Housing, and Human Services (CHHS) Department is accepting public comments on the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) through Wednesday, Oct. 4. The CHHS Board will also hold a public hearing on the CAPER on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 4 p.m. in the Council Briefing Center in the lower level of Spokane City Hall. Written comments may be emailed or provided via phone.

Volunteer clean-up days scheduled for September, October
Volunteer Clean-Up Days consisting of graffiti cleanup and litter pickup are scheduled in September and October in Spokane.

Friday, Oct. 6 – A graffiti cover-up and litter pick-up organized by ONS will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the East Central neighborhood. Meet at the Liberty Park Library, 402 S. Pittsburg St., at 10 a.m. for an orientation and supplies. Sign up on Eventbrite.com.

Autumn Adventures: Maren Morris Performing at S.A.F.E. Fall Festival
The Spokane Alliance for Fentanyl Education (S.A.F.E.) is proud to announce a powerful and impactful event aimed at raising awareness about the pressing issue of fentanyl and its devastating consequences in our community. The Fall Festival is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Spokane Pavilion.
The Fall Festival will feature an exceptional lineup of artists including country music superstar Maren Morris, Spokane-based singer-songwriter Sammy Eubanks, and other local musicians to be announced who are lending their voices to this vital cause. Attendees can expect an evening filled with family friendly music, yard games, and the opportunity to learn about all of Spokane’s resources related to addiction, prevention, treatment, recovery and support.
Tickets for the S.A.F.E. Fall Festival cost $25. Each ticket holder will receive a $10 food voucher. Tickets are available for purchase at spokanepavilion.com, the proceeds of which will go towards funding the foundation's initiatives, including educational programs, outreach efforts to end the tragic stories in our community.
