From cultural celebrations to community events, the month of February is brimming with opportunities for connection, learning, and joy. Whether you’re celebrating Black History Month, Lunar New Year, or simply enjoying the winter season, there’s something for everyone to look forward to here in the City of Spokane. Today is Election Day
Happy Election Day! Drop Boxes close today, Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. For a list of drop box locations visit the Spokane County Elections website.

City Services on Presidents' Day
Presidents' Day is Monday, Feb. 19 here is what you need to know.

Solid Waste Services will proceed as usual.
- The Waste to Energy Facility will be open.

Spokane City Hall will be open including My Spokane 311 and Development Services Center.

Riverfront Park attractions will be open.

Spokane Public Library branches will be closed.

On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment. Please remember all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.

Spokane City Council is not scheduled to meet.

Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be available by phone only.

Make Beacon Hill Public Phase II Community Meeting
The community is invited to discuss the Make Beacon Hill Public Phase II plan on Thursday, Feb. 15, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Liberty Park Library, or virtually via Zoom. This project is proposing park improvements to the existing trailheads at John H. Shields Park (Minnehaha rocks) and Camp Sekani Park, based on feedback from master plan community outreach and an October open house. Click here to learn more.

Resources & Empowerment: A Black History Month Event
Join Central Library for a Black-owned business and non-profit resource fair followed by a night of Empowerment Program featuring a dynamic panel of Black Male Leaders in Spokane. Visit the Spokane Public Library website to learn more.

WSDOT Community Workshop with the Artist
Join the Washington State Department of Transportation for an interactive community workshop, on Saturday, Feb. 17, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the MLK Jr. Community Center, that aims to refine the design of the architectural features along the North Spokane Corridor from Trent to Sprague Avenues. Local artist Reinaldo Gil Zambrano will lead a collaborative journey to create architectural features that reflect the heart and soul of our community. Click here to learn more.

Record Number of Permits In Spokane
In 2023, FOUR residential building records at the City were broken!
Those records include:
- Total residential units permitted in a year – 1,340;
- Multi-family units permitted in a year (not including conversions) – 984;
- Total residential units permitted in a month – 358 (August); and
- Multi-family units permitted in a month – 324 (August).

Implementation next phase for South Logan Plan
After a 20-month planning process working with the community on the vision for the area and City Council adoption of the South Logan Transit-Oriented Development Plan and Final Environmental Impact Statement, the Implementation phase of area-specific and citywide development code amendments, as well as land-use and zoning changes starts.

Spokane Land Use Townhall

CHHS seeks comment on Annual Action Plan
The City’s Community, Housing and Human Services (CHHS) Board and Department are accepting public comments through Saturday, March 9 on the proposed 2024 Annual Action Plan and funding recommendations posted on the City website. Comments can be submitted via email, phone, or at the public hearing on Wednesday, March 6, at 4 p.m. in the Council Briefing Room in City Hall. Spokane Human Rights Commission Applications Due Feb. 23
The Spokane Human Rights Commission is currently accepting applications for two vacancies. The Human Rights Commission advises and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding issues related to human rights and unjust discrimination and the implementation of programs consistent with the needs of all residents of the City of Spokane. The Spokane Human Rights Commission meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Those interested in being considered may submit a completed application to the Mayor’s Office at mayor@spokanecity.org by the application deadline on Friday, Feb. 23.
