Resident Assistance

The impacts of COVID have created hardships for people in many ways. The City continues to connect residents with available and eligible resources.

Utility Assistance

There are Resident Assistance programs for emergency help to pay for City utility bills, which include charges for water, wastewater, stormwater and garbage collection. Interest-free payment plans are also available for residential and commercial customers.

Rent Assistance

Due to demand exceeding funding, emergency rent assistance application portals in two of three locations have stopped accepting applications from City residents seeking rental assistance who do not have a current eviction notice.

City residents who are members of the African-American/BIPOC community are encouraged to visit the portal through the Carl Maxey Center to determine the availability of funds and eligibility requirements.

The City continues to work with the Washington State Department of Commerce to identify potential new sources of emergency rent assistance funds for City tenants and landlords, but a timeline for re-opening the portals for members of the general public (LiveStories) and households with children (Family Promise of Spokane) is unclear. Updates will be provided.

City residents with a current eviction notice still may be able to get assistance through the ERAP 2.0 program. To determine eligibility and the process for doing so, contact one of the City’s two dispute resolution centers managing the local Eviction Resolution Pilot Program:

Spokane Rewards. Spokane Solves. Spokane Gives

Summer Fun: Doggie Dip

The last splash at City pools is just for the dogs! Spokane Parks & Recreation is partnering with SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. to have fun and raise funds for the High Bridge Dog Park with their annual Doggie Dip event.

Dog owners can bring $10 to the pool the day of each event (drop-ins welcome!). Dogs must be well-mannered, healthy, and attended to by an owner who has proof of an up-to date rabies vaccination. Only dogs in the pool during Doggie Dip.

On the Bright Side

Last week, the Spokane Fire Department assisted Spokane County Fire District 3 on a quickly moving Wildland Urban Interface. While at the fire, SFD Chief Brian Schaeffer noticed a shovel standing against a Washington State Patrol trooper's car. He had a chance to meet the owner of that shovel and it belonged to the trooper in this photo.

Since the trooper had the shovel in his car, he went to work immediately to help the first arriving companies keep the fire contained by digging line. Great work trooper, and thank you!
