  • Free Rein Spring Work Day: Free Rein is looking for volunteers to help muck stalls, clean tack, organize the garage, rake the indoor arena, and weedwhack around the fence line. – Saturday, April 15, 12 - 2 p.m.



  • Hoopfest Court MonitorHoopfest is looking for court monitors for the largest 3on3 basketball tournament on the planet. – Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Hundreds of people are killed every year in work zone crashes. Most are drivers, their passengers, and pedestrians. Construction season is here and everyone’s safety is important!

Here are the project highlights:

Riverside Ave. Project Completion - Riverside Ave. is closed between Stevens St. and Wall St. for a grind and overlay project. Howard St. between Riverside Ave. and Sprague Ave. is closed too.


A St. between Rowan Ave. and Francis Ave. - A St. is closed between Rowan Ave. and Francis Ave. for a Street Department grind and overlay project.


Monroe St. Permanent Striping - Starting Monday, April 17, northbound and southbound Monroe St. traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Summit Pkwy. and Boone Ave. This work is to install permanent striping to the new surface as part of the 2022 grind and overlay project. Due to weather, temporary striping was used through the winter.

HUD Awards More than $4M to Fight Area Homelessness

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $4,359,643 in Continuum of Care Competition Awards to help local individuals and families experiencing homelessness move into permanent housing. All project requests submitted to HUD for funding by the City of Spokane on behalf of the regional Continuum of Care were fully funded. Click here to read more.

Hidden in Plain Sight

Hidden in Plain Sight is a series of interactive events, taking place April 13-19, offered by the Spokane Regional Health District and community partners to caregivers, educators, and other adults 21 years and older who work with or care for youth.  

 

Participants will walk through a mock teen bedroom and try to identify more than 70 items that could indicate problems or risky behaviors associated with vaping, cannabis, human trafficking, and mental health. Participants will then join a presentation and discussion about the indicators they saw, local youth trends, and tools to foster family conversations. Register here.

Community Conversation on Homelessness

The City of Spokane, Spokane County, Spokane Valley, and Airway Heights have signed on to a 90-day due diligence period to discuss a potential regional collaboration on homelessness. The Spokane Public Library will host a Community Conversation on Homelessness on Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Library. This is a kick-off event inviting community members to share their input on how to collaboratively address this critical issue in the Spokane region. Click here to learn more.
