Happy Pride Month, Spokane! Over the weekend, we were proud to participate in the annual Spokane Pride Parade.

Post St. Bridge Open

The Post St. Bridge is open for pedestrians, bicyclists, and one northbound lane of traffic! Thank you for celebrating the Post Street Bridge, Great Gorge Loop Trail, and Riverfront Park's South Suspension Bridge with us. Click here to learn more about these projects.

U.S. 195 Slowdown

Construction Zone

As part of the Marshall Rd. Water Transmission Main project, Cheney-Spokane Rd. is closed. Here is what to expect:

  • Cheney-Spokane Rd. closed just south of the retail area at US 195 and continues to Cedar Rd.
  • Businesses are OPEN and ACCESSIBLE from the Cheney-Spokane Rd. interchange.
  • SPEED REDUCTIONS will be signed on U.S. 195 between Hatch Rd. and Qualchan Dr.
  • Flaggers will be in place for traffic control Monday-Friday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. at U.S. 195 and Meadowlane Rd. intersection.
  • Traffic fines are double in work zones.

Junetoberfest

Mark your calendars for an unforgettable Saturday, June 15, as the German-American Society of Spokane brings Oktoberfest to June at the Spokane Pavilion, from 3 to 10 pm. Summer Parkways

Summer Parkways is returning in 2024 to the Manito/Comstock area, on Tuesday, June 18, from 6 - 9 p.m.! Join friends, family and neighbors for fun and fitness at this annual summer solstice community event, Spokane's biggest block party on the South Hill. Streets are closed to motorized vehicles and opened up to pedestrians, cyclists, runners, skaters, and other human-powered recreation. Activities and booths will be available in Manito and Comstock Parks and along the designated four mile car-free route through the picturesque tree-lined streets of Manito and Comstock neighborhoods. STA Offers Free Weekend Bus Rides for Expo's Anniversary

Celebrate the groovy festivities of Expo 50 Spokane with our partners Spokane Transit.

  • Free fare on all routes during weekends, until July 4.
  • 50¢ fare for the Downtown/North Bank Shuttle, weekdays, until July 5.

Snapshot Estimate of Homeless Population Reveals Overall Decrease

The 2024 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, conducted in compliance with federal funding requirements to provide an annual snapshot estimate of Spokane County’s homeless population, revealed a decrease overall from 2023. It is the first year-to-year decrease since 2016. 


A total of 2,021 people were counted this year compared to the 2,390 in 2023 for a 15 percent decrease. Click here for more information.

City Provides Annual Report on Drinking Water Quality

The City of Spokane Water Department has released the 2023 Water Quality Report. As in previous years, the City met or exceeded federal and state drinking water standards. Read the report here!

Covering and securing your load is an important safety issue and is enforceable by law. It's also a great way to keep Spokane County roads clean and our streams trash-free!

Lullaby Concert

Experience the heartwarming celebration of family, music, and creativity at the Lullaby Project Concert, presented by the Spokane Symphony and Spokane Public Library in partnership with YWCA. This special initiative pairs pregnant women and new parents with professional artists to craft personalized lullabies for their little ones. It's a unique opportunity for parents to express their feelings, hopes, and dreams for their children through the power of music. 2024 Multicultural Center Grant

The 2024 Multicultural Center grant, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, is open for applications! This program provides funding for community-serving organizations to cover capital campaign expenses, aiming to expand services. Grants of up to $100,000 are available to support the implementation of a capital campaign resulting in the organization securing a physical location for its operations. Key tasks identified for this funding include strategic planning, feasibility study, campaign implementation, and training/support for staff in relation to a capital campaign. South Logan Project Comment Period Continues

Comments on the proposed code changes associated with the South Logan Transit-Oriented Development Project, specifically related to the South Logan TOD Subarea as well as Center and Corridor, height, and residential open space code sections, will be accepted through Monday, June 17 via email. However, written comments will still be accepted up to the City Council public hearing tentatively scheduled for late July. After the public comment period, the City will revise the proposed text amendments as deemed appropriate based on the received feedback. Public comments will be shared with the Plan Commission and Spokane City Council. 

Pacific Avenue Greenway Alignment Survey, Open Houses Available

A survey is available through Sunday, June 30 for the City Planning Department’s Pacific Avenue Greenway Alignment Study. The study has identified three alignment options for the greenway, from which a preferred alternative will be chosen. Take the survey to help us choose the best option. This phase of the project is in the East Central Neighborhood, specifically within the South University District, but the entire project including Phase I, which is planned and funded, is meant to connect cyclists and pedestrians moving between downtown and the University District up to Perry Street. CHHS Seeks Project Proposals

The City’s Spokane Community, Housing, and Human Services (CHHS) Department seeks proposals for: 

  • Housing-related services projects supporting qualifying populations associated with affordable housing facilities through Wednesday, July 17, by 5 p.m. (an estimated $4.5 million in local and federal funds is available through the HOME-ARP program and 1590 Affordable Housing Program);
  • Affordable housing projects that are highly viable, cost-effective, project-ready, and that leverage additional funding from public and private sources through Friday, June 28, at 5 p.m. (an estimated $9,094,000 in federal and local funds will be available through the HOME Investment Partnership Program and the 1590 Affordable Housing Program);
  • A housing navigation center operator and service provider with $3.85 million in funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce Consolidated Homeless Grant through Sunday, June 16, at 8 p.m.

Fair Housing Plan Out for Comment

The Community, Housing, and Human Services (CHHS) Department and the CHHS Board are seeking public comments on the City of Spokane’s 2024 Fair Housing Plan. Prepared by Northwest Fair Housing Alliance, the purpose of the plan is to assist the City with its obligation to affirmatively further fair housing and engage in fair housing planning. Comments will be accepted through Wednesday, July 3. View the plan online. Interested parties are invited to comment via email, phone, or in person at the public hearing on Wednesday, July 3 at 4 p.m.
