Wheatland Bank Free Horse and Carriage Rides
Enjoy the sights of downtown from a horse drawn carriage, sing your favorite carols with family and friends, and sit back to enjoy the ride.
Schedule
Fridays, 3 - 8 p.m. (Breaks from 5 - 6 p.m.)
Saturday and Sunday, 12 - 5 p.m. (Breaks from 2 - 3 p.m.)

Holiday Window Display Contest
To celebrate Spokane’s unique, historic downtown, awards will be presented to businesses in the downtown area for the best holiday window displays.
Awards will be presented in three categories:
- Downtown Choice Award
- The STCU Award
- People’s Choice Award
To vote, scan the QR code shown at each location and navigate to the online voting form. The window with the most votes by Sunday, Dec. 18, 8 p.m. will win the People’s Choice Award. Five names will be drawn from all votes to win a $50 River Park Square gift card. Click here for details.

Full-City Plow Completed Saturday
The Full-City plow covering 2,200 lane miles utilizing personnel from both streets and water and wastewater departments was completed Saturday, Dec. 3. Snow crews continue to clean up areas that need additional work. Residents who note that their block was missed by plows can call 3-1-1 to report it.

Daily deliveries of supplies and materials are making the Trent Resource and Assistance Center more accommodating for the people who are now staying there.

Adopt A Fire Hydrant
Please adopt a hydrant and keep a 3-foot snow-free zone around it. In the case of a fire, firefighters need access to hydrants quickly. A couple minutes of your time could help save a life and property in a fire emergency.

Resident Assistance
The impacts of COVID have created hardships for people in many ways. The City continues to connect residents with available and eligible resources.
Utility Assistance
There are Resident Assistance programs for emergency help to pay for City utility bills, which include charges for water, wastewater, stormwater and garbage collection. Interest-free payment plans are also available for residential and commercial customers.

Rent Assistance
Emergency rent assistance application portals remain paused from accepting applications from City residents seeking rental assistance who do not have a current eviction notice. A timeline for re-opening the portals, or if they will due to applications seeking previous funds still in the cue, has not been determined. Meanwhile, City of Spokane residents with a current eviction notice still may receive assistance. To determine eligibility and the process for doing so, reach out to one of the City’s two Dispute Resolution Centers managing the local Eviction Resolution Pilot Program.
Overall, the two-year emergency rent assistance program has distributed about $33 million to more than 6,500 households.

Point-In-Time Count Volunteers Needed
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable population? Volunteers are needed for the 2023 Point-In-Time Count as surveys of the homeless population throughout Spokane County will be conducted Jan. 25 - 29. Sign up to be a volunteer online. The count is a requirement of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) to determine funding for homeless services and is used by regional planners to make system improvements. Volunteers work in teams to survey individuals, youth and families using an app on their phone. Volunteers must participate in at least one one-hour virtual training session on dates to be determined in January prior to the count. More information is on the City’s website. Autumn Adventures: Skate for a Cause
Riverfront Spokane is hosting Skate for a Cause at the Numerica Skate Ribbon! This program is designed to support community-centered, nonprofit organizations in their fundraising efforts. Discounted admission tickets, including skate rentals, are provided for local nonprofit organizations to sell on site during their scheduled Skate for a Cause event. This allows the organization to retain 30% of the public admission fee for their unique needs.

On the Bright Side
For the last 30 years, the Children's Fire Safety House has toured area elementary schools teaching over 54,000 kids about fire safety. We are excited to share that funding for a new trailer will allow the Spokane Fire Department to continue providing fire education to kids.
