Public Comment Sought

We want to hear from you! The City of Spokane is now seeking input on the draft South Logan Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). A 30-day public comment period is open from Tuesday, May 9 through Thursday, June 8.

In addition to providing written comments, you are invited to a public workshop on Thursday, May 18, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Learn more about the workshop as well as the draft documents here.

Shop-Vac the Sewer System

Our Wastewater Specialist team uses this “dual purpose” truck to clean the City’s main sewer lines regularly. As part of wastewater maintenance, the blue hose on the front uses high-pressure water to go up the line, then as they pull the hose back the water jets bring the dirt and roots back to the entry point. If there is significant material and debris, the black hose sucks it out like a huge shop vac! Did you know there are 1,250 miles of sanitary and sewers in the City? Wastewater maintenance crews take great pride in their work!

Public Comment Period Open for Proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendments

The City of Spokane has initiated a public comment period through Wednesday, June 7 regarding a proposed suite of text and policy changes to Chapter 3 of its Comprehensive Plan. Chapter 3 concerns land use in the city, providing the long-term vision, values, goals, and policies for development of the City for the next 20 years and more. Review the proposed changes and submit your comments here

On the Bright Side

The Building Opportunity and Choices for All (BOCA) interim ordinance, approved in 2022 as a year-long zoning program that modifies residential zoning to accelerate construction of more housing types, earned a state Excellence in Planning Award in the Comprehensive Plan-Large Cities and Counties category. The award was presented during the Planning Association of Washington (PAW) and Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-WA) Conference. Click here for more info.
