December 2024

Message from Mayor Pribonic

Dear Stow Community,

As we approach the holiday season, it’s a time for reflection, gratitude, and togetherness. This special time of year reminds us of the importance of community and lending a hand to those in need. I want to thank you all for your generosity, compassion, and dedication to making Stow a wonderful place to live. I’m excited to highlight several opportunities for us to come together and make a meaningful impact this season:

No One Should Sleep Out in the Cold

This vital collection drive is underway at Stow City Hall and will run through December 17, 2024. We’re partnering with the Peter Maurin Center, The Knights of Columbus, and fellow cities to gather warm clothing and supplies for the homeless. Your donations will directly support those facing harsh winter conditions, ensuring they have the resources to stay warm and safe.

The Peter Maurin Center’s incredible work inspires us all, and this is a chance to be part of their mission. Learn how you can contribute at stowohio.org.

Wreaths Across America

On December 14, 2024, at 2:30 PM, the Joshua Stow Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host the Wreaths Across America ceremony. This heartfelt tradition honors our veterans by laying wreaths on their graves across our three community cemeteries.

Last year, more than 200 community members participated in this moving tribute, which is part of a global effort placing over 2.7 million wreaths in 3,700 cemeteries worldwide. I encourage you to join us in honoring the brave men and women who have served our country. Learn more at stowohio.org.

Glow with Stow & Glow Market

Get ready for an evening of holiday cheer at Glow with Stow, happening this Saturday, December 7, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Stow City Hall.

Highlights include:

  • Our spectacular tree-lighting ceremony at 5:45 PM
  • Food trucks and live entertainment
  • A visit from Santa Claus!
  • NEW this year: The Glow Market, in partnership with the Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce, features local vendors offering unique holiday gifts and crafts.

The lights and displays around City Hall will remain up through January 2, 2025, so be sure to take a stroll and enjoy the festive ambiance. For more details, visit stowohio.org.

Santa's Mailbox

Santa’s special mailbox is back at City Hall! Drop off your letter to Santa (with a self-addressed stamped envelope) so he can send you a personal reply. Be sure to submit your letters early to give them enough time to travel to the North Pole and back. For more information, visit stowohio.org.

As 2024 comes to a close, I want to thank each of you for your unwavering support and active participation in our community. Together, we have accomplished so much and created a stronger, more connected Stow.

From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful and safe holiday season. May it be filled with warmth, happiness, and cherished moments with loved ones.

Warm regards,

John Pribonic

DECEMBER: Work All Winter

Native berry-bearing and evergreen plant species provide important habitat and food for overwintering bird species. Additionally, many animal species depend on winter cover to protect their young. These plants can also provide a pop of color to brighten up winters’ dreariest days! Some native species that provide winter cover and food include American holly (Ilex opaca), Winterberry (Ilex verticillata), Inkberry (Ilex glabra), Red chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia), Red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), and White pine (Pinus strobus). To add winter interest to your home landscape visit your local tree farm or nursery. Photo credit Wild Birds Unlimited
