February 2024

Message from Mayor Pribonic

Dear Residents,

I hope you are all enjoying the winter season. It is hard to believe that February is already here! Although we have had a mild winter, there have been recent snow and ice storms. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for our service department workers. They have gone above and beyond to serve our community, and we truly appreciate your patience as they perform their work. As we navigate through the ice and snow, it is important that we all drive with caution.

I am thrilled to announce that the City has successfully acquired Cornerstone Church - the NEW Stow Community Center! The property will undergo extensive renovations and improvements before we can relocate our senior programs to the new facility. Stay updated on our progress through our project updates, as we prepare for the future! Furthermore, keep an eye out for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground at Meadowbrook Lake Park, as well as the ceremony for the NEW driving range at Fox Den Golf Course this Spring.

Recently, there have been some staffing changes in my administration as well as in the Law and Finance Departments. Please stay updated with our City notifications as we will be posting the profiles of both new and existing City staff. I am extremely proud of each and every one of them, and I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with them as we continue progressing Stow. See our most recent staffing announcements: https://stowohio.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?CID=1

As we continue through winter, you may have noticed that the days are gradually getting longer. However, I want to express my concern for the well-being of our residents. I encourage you to take advantage of the extra daylight, bundle up, and spend some time outside if possible. If you need assistance during these darker months or anytime, please reach out. Additionally, I kindly ask that you check on your neighbors and offer assistance if needed. #YOUMATTER. https://stowohio.org/323/Mental-Health-Resources

Remember to check out the plethora of events and programs we have planned throughout the year! Over the next few months, find exciting activities that will get you out of the house and socializing with your friends and neighbors. You can find more information at https://www.stowohio.org/337/Programs-Events.

Our City is experiencing great progress and we have much to be proud of. We are rooted in tradition while remaining focused on the future. As always, I pledge to be accessible to our residents and businesses. Your ideas, input, and feedback are invaluable in understanding the concerns of our community. My commitment lies with the best interests of Stow, and I hope you share that sentiment.

Thank you for your attention and continued support.

Sincerely,

John Pribonic

Respect Your Wetlands

Wetlands provide a number of services for people and wildlife, including storing floodwaters, reducing erosion, purifying water, and providing habitat. They’re beautiful places to hike, paddle, and birdwatch. Help protect these ecosystems by maintaining a buffer strip of native plants along your wetlands, using pesticides and fertilizers sparingly, and picking up your pet waste. Respect and protect your wetlands!

Backflow Prevention / Cross Connection Control

With the inception of the Stow Public Water System in November of 2001, the City began a vigorous Backflow Prevention Program. The program ensures that any perceived hazard to the quality of the water system is isolated and the water system is protected from contamination. This program requires on-site inspections of all sites where a potential hazard may exist. When any potential hazard is identified, the user/customer is directed to install a backflow prevention device. The program assures that all devices are installed, as directed, not removed or made inoperable, and are tested on an annual basis, as required by law. Comprehensive records are maintained for all sites and devices within the system. At present, the system Contains in excess of 1500 approved and tested devices in commercial and residential settings.
