Holiday Safety Tips

Sumter Fire Department

  • If you have a live Christmas tree, make sure it's properly watered everyday to prevent it from drying out.
  • Make sure you are using grounded extension cords with three prongs for lights.
  • When using space heaters, there needs to be a three foot clearance on all sides.
  • Every home should have a working smoke detector. Households that use a fireplace or wood-burning stove should also have a carbon monoxide detector.
Need a smoke or carbon monoxide detector? Call the Sumter Fire Department, 803-436-2600 for more information.
