DECEMBER 2021
Monthly Memo from the City Manager
I hope you are enjoying the holidays with your family, friends, and loved ones. As we approach the New Year, we welcome incoming Mayor Matt Rahn who was appointed by the Temecula City Council to serve as Temecula’s 2022 Mayor beginning tomorrow, January 1, 2022. Zak Schwank was appointed Temecula’s 2022 Mayor Pro Tem. In the absence of the Mayor, the Mayor Pro Tem assumes the Mayor’s duties and responsibilities as presiding officer of the City Council.

Each December, the Temecula City Council selects council colleagues to serve as the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Tem for the following year. Mayor Matt Rahn was elected to the City Council by the citizenry in November of 2014 for a term of four years, and was re-elected in 2018. Rahn first served as Temecula’s Mayor in 2018 with public safety and “Temecula Safe” as the yearlong theme. As shared in a recent press release, Rahn's top priority continues to be public safety as Mayor for 2022. Other key issues include traffic/transportation, responsible/thoughtful growth, parks/recreation (including senior services), maintaining an overall high quality of life as a business-friendly and family-friendly safe city, and safeguarding local control.

Here at City Hall, we'd also like to thank outgoing Mayor Maryann Edwards for her exemplary leadership, resilience, dedication, and love for the City of Temecula. She led the City of Temecula with grace for an unprecedented eighteen months and we are grateful to her for demonstrating Temecula Cares.

Happy New Year!

-Aaron Adams, City Manager

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING STATE LAW (SB 1383)

California State law (Senate Bill 1383) requires a 75% reduction in the level of statewide disposal of organic waste by 2025.

What does this mean for every business and household? In short, all California residences and businesses are required to separate organic waste from other trash and non-organic recyclables starting in 2022. Organic waste includes both food waste and other green waste, such as yard trimmings. CR&R will be reaching out to Temecula businesses and residents with more information. Learn about CC&R's organics processing technology.
