Vallejo, CA - The City of Vallejo recognizes the community’s concerns regarding conditions in the area commonly referred to as White Slough, generally located within the wetlands between Highway 37 and Redwood Street, and Sacramento Street and Sonoma Boulevard. Although the City does not own or control any of the property within White Slough, the City has taken a leadership role in convening a broad group of public agencies and other stakeholders to explore a coordinated approach to addressing the conditions in the area.
The stakeholder group continues to meet regularly and is currently planning toward a potential cleanup in Spring 2027. Spring should be considered a planning window rather than a confirmed cleanup date. Any cleanup will be contingent upon several factors, including weather and site conditions, the availability of funding, completion of necessary legal and operational preparations, and the ability to provide appropriate outreach and services to individuals residing at White Slough.
A significant component of the planning effort involves outreach and services. The City and its partners are working to identify resources that may assist individuals with connections to available shelter, housing, behavioral health, and other supportive services. Separate from these outreach and service costs, the physical cleanup of White Slough is currently estimated at approximately $400,000. The City and participating stakeholders are evaluating potential funding sources, cost-sharing opportunities, and in-kind contributions to support the effort.
The planning effort also recognizes that removing debris alone will not provide a lasting solution. A successful operation will require a coordinated strategy for cleanup as well as measures to address site security, maintenance, illegal dumping, and the potential for reoccupation. The City will continue working with its partners to determine what is operationally and financially feasible and will bring appropriate recommendations to the City Council as the planning advances.
