Sun's Out, Fun's Out

Schools are getting out, the sun is shining, and parks are open! Now's the time to visit one of our 21 open, beautiful, and well-maintained parks. (Bonus points if you visit all of them!)

Fun Fact: Most city parks are open year-round, including holidays, from 7 a.m. to dusk (with the exception of sports leagues, programs, events, and classes scheduled beyond dusk).

Planning a fun summer party? Looking for a park or multi-purpose room to rent for a special occasion? Visit the Recreation and Community Services page for resources, rates, and more.

National Safety Month: Vegetation Management

What is "vegetation management," and how does it help keep you, your family, and property safe?

Vegetation management is one of the simplest ways to help reduce wildfire risk before fire season peaks. It involves maintaining the vegetation (like bushes, trees, etc.) around areas susceptible to fire. Clearing dead brush, trimming/maintaining overgrown vegetation, and creating a clear, defensible space around structures can help slow the spread of fire and improve emergency access for firefighters.

Additionally, propane tanks should maintain 10 feet of clearance from your home, and tree branches above driveways should maintain clearance for Vista Fire Rescue (VFR) fire engines to be able to promptly respond in cases of emergency. Watch our social media Vegetation Management video to learn more and take the first step towards safety.

Senior Center: Ping Pong

Get active and have fun joining peers for ping pong (aka table tennis) in the Azalea Game Room at the Gloria McClellan Senior Center every Monday and Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.! Read the June Senior Center Newsletter here and view the Park Terrace Café menu here.

Coming soon: Public Tree Master Plan

The City of Vista is gearing up to create a Public Tree Master Plan, which will guide the future of our community trees! Visit our website to learn about Vista’s urban forest, including our canopy coverage, heat severity, tree inventory, tree benefits, and prune schedule.
