Help Provide Shoes for 144 Children

Councilmember Katie Melendez is inviting the community to step up and make a direct difference for local kids through the City of Vista’s 3rd Annual Children’s Shoe Drive.

This year, the City is partnering with MAAC Project, which has identified 144 children in Vista who need new, properly fitting shoes. For many families, a simple necessity like footwear can be a real hardship.

Sponsors are critical to making this effort successful. A new pair of shoes helps children stay healthy, confident, and ready to learn. Last year’s drive showed what’s possible when the community comes together, and the goal this year is simple: make sure every one of the 144 children receives safe, comfortable shoes.

Community partners, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to sponsor pairs of shoes and help ensure no child is left out.

For more information, email Councilmember Melendez at kmelendez@vista.gov.

Free Vista Civic Gallery Presents "55" - A Solo Exhibition by Kelly Clark

The Vista Civic Center Gallery is proud to present “55,” a solo exhibition by California-based multimedia artist Kelly Clark, on view February 2–27, 2026. The exhibition features new photographs and paintings created during Clark’s artist residency in Italy, alongside mixed-media works inspired by flora, fauna, and abstraction.

Clark’s Italian landscapes carry a quiet, timeless mood—images rich with texture, history, and a painterly sensibility. During her residency in the Umbrian hill town of Corciano, her studio overlooked the 13th-century Castello di Pieve del Vescovo, once the summer residence of Pope Leo XIII. From her base in the region of Perugia, Clark explored and photographed the ancient towns of Assisi and Montefalco, pairing many of these images with paintings created during—or inspired by—her time abroad.

Each artwork in “55” includes an interactive element: scan the QR code beside the piece to hear music selected to accompany the work, adding an immersive layer to the viewing experience.

A Vista local, Clark brings more than two decades of experience as an educator and is currently the Photography Teacher and CTE Department Chair at Rancho Buena Vista High School. She holds an MA in Art Education and a BFA in Photography with a concentration in painting, and has exhibited both regionally and nationally.

The Vista Civic Center Gallery is located on the second floor of the Vista Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, and is open Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–5:30 pm, and alternate Fridays, 7:30 am–4:30 pm. A free public reception with the artist will be held Thursday, February 12, from 4–6 p.m.

The Civic Gallery is a program of the Vista Public Arts Commission.
