Most Important Stop of the Day

⁠During your commute to or from work, you may experience the familiar scenario:

You're listening to music or a podcast, just focused on getting to your destination when a school bus pulls to the side of the road in front of you, extends its stop-arm, and its red lights start flashing.

That is not the time to try to speed up and pass the bus; by then, students are already entering, exiting, or otherwise making their way to the stopped school bus. Per California law, drivers MUST stop when a school bus has the stop-arm extended and their red lights flashing.

Drivers traveling in the opposite direction on a divided highway or multiple-lane road are not required to stop, but please note that ALL drivers need to be aware of students crossing and entering/exiting the bus.

Taking the two minutes to stop for a school bus can save lives. Do your part to protect our community- follow school bus safety!

Last Call for the 2026 Wave Waterpark Season

Gather some friends, grab the towels, and head over to the Wave Waterpark for one last hurrah for the 2026 season! The Wave Waterpark (101 Wave Dr.) is only open for weekends now through October 4, 12-5 p.m., so don't miss out on making one last splash of the year!

Reminder: Proposed Community Resilience Center at Luz Duran Park Survey

The City of Vista is applying for a state grant to create a Community Resilience Center (CRC) at Luz Duran Park (979 N. Citrus Ave.), a year-round community space that could also serve as a safe resource hub during emergencies. Your feedback will help shape what this center looks like and how it serves the Vista community. The CRC would replace the existing one-story building formerly used by the Sheriff's Office.

This 4-question survey closes on Monday, September 28, at 8 a.m.

Reminder: Temporary Bocce Ball Court Closure

We're in the process of renovating the bocce ball courts at Brengle Terrace Park! The courts are estimated to reopen the second week of October.

So, what's new? The bocce ball courts will have new wood sidings around all 4 bocce ball courts, as well as a new playing surface made with Oystershell material.

Note: The parking areas near the courts may be closed during renovations due to the need for vehicle and equipment access. We appreciate your understanding and join you in looking forward to the upgraded courts!

Solatube Joins Green Business Network at Innovator Level

You're invited to join Solatube International, Inc. and the City of Vista for a Green Business Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Friday, October 2!

We're excited to welcome Solatube to the Green Business Network (GBN) program at the Innovator Level, meaning they are actively working to establish strategical and cutting-edge sustainability practices. Businesses recognized at this level are working to become strong models for others through their larger focus on community leadership and implementing effective polices into business practices.

On October 2, from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Solatube is hosting Resilience in Action: From Climate Plans to Local Action, an event bringing together Climate Action Plan (CAP) leaders from Vista and other local cities to discuss how the cities are transforming ambitious climate goals into meaningful local progress.

Event attendees will hear directly from city leaders, learn about Solatube's journey to becoming a certified Green Business, and go behind the scenes with a guided tour of their Vista facility (2210 Oak Ridge Way). The event will also provide valuable opportunities to connect with local leaders, businesses, and community members who are working together to build a more resilient and sustainable San Diego region.

Thank you for making an impact on our community! During the 42nd Annual Coastal Cleanup Day at the Buena Vista Creek Trail last weekend, 40 volunteers collected:

• 660 pounds of trash
• 160 pounds of recycling
• 100 pounds of green waste

The City of Vista thanks all who volunteered their time to help protect our environment and keep Vista clean!
