Open House scheduled to solicit public input on design alternatives for Sullivan Road/Trent Avenue Interchange
Standard Signalized Diamond Interchange
This design widens Sullivan to seven lanes, two lanes in each direction, two southbound lefts and one northbound left). Signalized intersections will be used for both eastbound and westbound ramps. It provides increased on-ramp lengths and is likely to close Progress Road access to Trent Avenue.

Estimated cost: $42.2 million
Diamond Interchange with Peanut Roundabout
This design utilizes elongated roundabouts to provide all turn movements of traffic for on/off eastbound and westbound ramps. It operates best for the anticipated traffic flow. It provides Increased on-ramp lengths and is likely to close Progress Road access to Trent Avenue.

Estimated cost: $42.2 million
Diverging Diamond Interchange
This design directs northbound and southbound traffic to opposite sides at two signalized intersections. It allows unsignalized left and right turns to and from the ramps, decreasing vehicle conflicts and increasing traffic volumes. It provides increased on-ramp lengths and is likely to close Progress Road access to Trent Avenue.

Estimated cost: $43.1 million
Jughandle Interchange
With this design, Sullivan and Trent would connect using two at-grade roundabouts. Trent Avenue’s traffic speed will need to be reduced through the roundabout. This design provides increased east on-ramp length with no impacts to Progress Road access to Trent Avenue. It operates best for the anticipated traffic flow. It would also reduce high speed collisions on Trent.

Estimated cost: $35.2 million.
With the past residential and commercial growth in the area, along with the connection of Bigelow Gulch Road to the Sullivan/Wellesley intersection, the city anticipates the interchange as currently configured will fail to handle traffic volumes by year 2030. Both the bridge over Trent and the bridge over the BNSF Railway will be replaced to support additional traffic demand and allow expansion of the BNSF mainline.
