San Gabriel hosts fourth annual Lunar New Year Festival
Annual celebration combines traditional and contemporary acts
This past Saturday, the city hosted its fourth annual Lunar New Year Festival in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District.

This year's talent included the Immortals Awaken Lion Club, the USC Kazan Taiko group, Travis Atreo, Melissa Polinar, Perry & Danielle and much, much more. This is in addition to the dozens of vendors and food trucks who made an appearance at the festival.

The project will involve the removal of the existing bridge as well as the construction of a new bridge to meet current design standards. Construction crews will also work on the reconstruction of the roadway leading to the bridge, as well as on the installation of new street lighting and the replacement of the existing traffic signal at the intersection with Commercial Center.
San Gabriel recognized for its preservation ordinance
L.A. Conservancy awards San Gabriel a project award
If you've been following the city's preservation efforts recently, you might know that San Gabriel passed a new preservation ordinance last year that protects and preserves the city's historic past. With the new ordinance, San Gabriel now has a modern framework to protect the city's cultural, architectural, social, historical, economic and political heritage.

The Los Angeles Conservancy recognized the city's preservation efforts with an award, noting that the updated ordinance will "allow San Gabriel to take its historic preservation program to the next level."

Addressing mid-major crimes in San Gabriel
SGPD to expand resources and outreach to address mid-major crimes
With the City Council's decision to end the San Gabriel Police Department's agreement with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the SGPD will now dedicate more resources to address mid-major crimes.

Since the HSI agreement was just one of many tools the department used, the dissolution of the agreement means that the SGPD will rely on other agreements and partnerships to help boost the department's resources.
Meet the Playhouse's youngest donor
10-year-old Sophia donates one dollar to Playhouse facade campaign
We'd like to extend a special thank you to Sophia, the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse's youngest donor! Last summer, 10-year-old Sophia attended a tour of the Mission Playhouse. When she was informed about the Playhouse's facade restoration campaign, she donated one dollar to the cause, explaining "here, you need this more than I do, use it for painting the theater!"
