Council adopts new development standards for single-family residence zone
Development standards address the issue of mansionization
Last night, the City Council adopted new development standards for the city's single-family residence zone. In addition, the City Council also approved a street closure for the Fall Fun Festival along with several items on the consent calendar. You may view the full agenda here
City receives $200,000 for Safe Routes to School Plan
Grant comes from the Southern California Association of Governments
The City of San Gabriel was recently awarded a grant of $200,000 to help study the safety of school routes in the city as part of its Safe Routes to School Plan.

With this grant (along with $90,000 in local funds), the Public Works department will be studying the physical conditions, traffic controls and pedestrian/vehicular traffic around schools with the goal of improving student safety and encouraging active transportation such as walking or biking.
Mission Playhouse to host arts panel and Fall Fun Festival
Playhouse to showcase cartoons and movies during Fall Fun Festival
On October 23 at 6:00 p.m., the Mission Playhouse will host the "Finding Your Voice as an Artist in a Multicultural Society" arts panel to explore the topics of diversity and equality in the arts. 

In addition, the Playhouse will also host free screenings of Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry Halloween cartoons during the Fall Fun Festival on October 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. along with a free screening of the Tim Burton classic "Beetlejuice" beginning at 9:00 p.m.
Picture this: Scan your family's history on November 4
Event will allow residents to scan old photos of their family and history
The San Gabriel Library and the San Gabriel Historical Association are both sponsoring a historical photo scanning day on November 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Historical Association located at 546 West Broadway. All residents of San Gabriel are invited to bring old photos of their families and their histories to be scanned.

Flash drives will be provided to store digitized prints, and the scanned photos will be part of the county's database of searchable photos.

Improvements focus on backstage areas
During the summer, the Mission Playhouse stage crew worked on several projects to prepare the historic venue for its fall season. These changes - which mainly occurred backstage - were focused on improving the Playhouse's infrastructure for technicians, renters and staff as they showcase shows and events throughout the year.

Meeting to be held in English, Mandarin and Cantonese

Detective Nhat Huynh and Reserve Officer Jack Yao will be holding a community meeting to discuss daily police functions, domestic violence, burglaries and 911 call assistance on November 4 at the Chinese Christian Herald Crusades located at 715 East Mission Road. The event will be held in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Construction notice:
As a reminder, please be advised that Mission Road at the railway crossing will continue to be closed until November 7 while ACE removes the temporary railroad tracks to perform pavement work. Northbound and southbound traffic lanes will be closed to traffic, and pedestrian access at the railroad crossing will be available most of the time. A detour along with additional information can be found here.

In addition, construction on San Gabriel Boulevard between Commercial Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue will occur from now until December 4 while crews remove the temporary railway tracks. The street will remain open with at least one lane of traffic maintained in each direction while construction takes place. Finally, access to Angeleno Avenue will be restricted during the first phase of this project. Business access and pedestrian access will remain available. More information may be found here.
