As a friendly reminder, if you'd like to learn more about your local fire department, be sure to attend this year's Fire Service Day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a special behind-the-scenes tour of Fire Station 51. Also, please be mindful of a 55-hour closure at the Del Mar Avenue crossing from May 11 to May 14 as construction crews work to repave that section of roadway. SGFD requests feasibility study from LA County Fire
City Council preview for May 15 now online
After the dissolution of the tri-city fire agreement with San Marino and South Pasadena, a study was commissioned to evaluate the San Gabriel Fire Department and the services it provides to the community compared to neighboring cities. As part of the presentation, the option of contracting with Los Angeles County was explored as a way to improve fire services to the City.

Del Mar Avenue crossing to be closed May 11 to May 14
ACE to perform pavement rehabilitation during 55-hour closure
Please be advised that ACE will be performing pavement work from the Del Mar Avenue crossing to Agostino Road beginning on May 11 at 9:00 p.m. Construction is expected to end by 5:00 a.m. on May 14. Pedestrian access will be available, but motorists on Clary Avenue will not have access to Del Mar Avenue. Instead, drivers should use San Marino Avenue to connect to Broadway during construction.
Celebrate Mother's Day at the Playhouse May 13
Asian Pacific American Festival runs from May 7 to May 26
Join us for Family Day from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Playhouse Plaza this Sunday as we celebrate the Asian Pacific American Festival along with Mother's Day. Cultural performances will be held on the outdoor stage beginning at 1:00 p.m. along with bouquet workshops. Afterwards, join Emmy award-winning composer Nathan Wang at 3:30 p.m. inside the Mission Playhouse.

The Asian Pacific American festival runs from May 7 to May 26, with workshops, screenings and performances. All events are free, so be sure to reserve your spot and learn more at the link below.
Have Mother's Day tea and bunco at the Adult Center
Make your reservation by May 11
We  ❤️  moms! Join us at the Adult Recreation Center on May 14 with tea, dessert and the popular dice game bunco!

To reserve your lunch for this event, call 626.308.2823 no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11. The suggested donation for lunch is $3 and participants must be 60 years and older to receive a lunch.
Officer Donovan Jimenez receives award from MADD
Jimenez honored for his work to combat impaired driving
Congratulations to Officer Donovan Jimenez, who received an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving last week for his work to combat impaired driving. Jimenez was honored at MADD's Law Enforcement Recognition Awards, which honors heroes in law enforcement for their life-saving work.

Play Day in the park on May 19
Celebrate the artistry of Benjamin Dominguez
In 1965, La Laguna de San Gabriel was built on Vincent Lugo Park's last undeveloped piece of land. To celebrate Benjamin Dominguez's imaginative concrete structure, the City is hosting a day of play on May 19 at Vincent Lugo Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Community Services and Friends of La Laguna will be hosting the event, with food, games, face painting and entertainment. For more information, contact Recreation Coordinator Matthew Morales-Stevens via email or at 626.308.2875.
San Gabriel to honor troops with honor wall
Nominate a service member by June 8
We'll be honoring members of the Armed Forces at the 2018 Kid's Day and 4th of July Parade with an honor wall listing San Gabriel residents that have served their country. To recognize a loved one, fill out an entry form and submit a 4" by 6" photo to Community Services by June 8. If you've submitted a name in the past, you do not need to resubmit your entry for this year's event.

Please note that photos will not be returned.
Community Services celebrates older adult volunteers
Luncheon held in honor of National Volunteer Month
To honor National Volunteer Month, Community Services held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for older adult program volunteers last month. This year's theme - celebrating service - speaks to the countless hours of valuable service given to the City.

Summer fun at San Gabriel's day camp
Register for a camp from Community Services
Mark your calendar: Cougar Adventure Camp is now open for registration at the Community Recreation Center. Day Camp will be held at Coolidge Elementary School this summer from June 11 to August 17. Our summer day camp features a variety of fun summer activities for youth entering first grade through eighth grade. Participants must be six years old or older to participate. 

Register at the Community Recreation Center located at 250 South Mission Drive.
