Good evening,
We continue to offer our thoughts to the communities affected by the fires across the region, including those in Ventura County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County and San Diego County. Low relative humidity coupled with strong winds and dry fuel continue to present a high fire danger in the area. Stay alert and report fires by calling 911. You can learn more fire prevention tips by visiting CAL FIRE's website here.

Now, here's what's making news for the week of December 13, 2017.
Council moves city's municipal elections
City elections will be held in March of every even-numbered year
At the last City Council meeting, the Council agreed to move the date of the city's general municipal elections to the first Tuesday after the first Monday of March of every even-numbered year beginning in 2020. This move was made to comply with Senate Bill 415, which requires local entities to move their election cycles to coincide with state elections if the local entity didn't meet a certain threshold.

As part of the change, the city will inform all registered voters of the change in date with public notices and postcards.

Playhouse receives $5,000 for restoration campaign
Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel to make donation
Earlier this week, the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel generously agreed to donate $5,000 to the Mission Playhouse's campaign restoration fund. "We are thrilled to have the support of such an important member of our business community," Kelly Salloum, Development/Special Projects Manager of the Playhouse said.

The Playhouse facade hasn't received a comprehensive refurbishment since the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake. Since then, the facade paint has cracked after years of deferred maintenance.
